SOURCE: sony walkman nwz-a816 getting usb device not recognized
okay, try plugging it in. Go to Startmenu, right click 'My computer', and select properties. Go to the 'Hardware' tab, then Device manager. Down at the bottom, you should see a section of the tree that can be expanded, entitled 'Universal Serial Bus Controllers' Find the Unknown device part. Select that, then go to 'Action','Uninstall'. After un-installation, the computer might restart. Unplug your walkman. When windows is back up, plug it in, and see if that works. if not, I have an alternative solution

U need to upgrade the firmware, you need to download the firmware from here: http://support.sony-europe.com/dna/downloads/firmware/firmware.aspx?site=odw_en_GB&m=NWZ-B135&f=FRM_NWZ_B13x_f after downloading, run it and then connect the player to system while holding the "volume -" button...it should be detected and the firmware would be restored.

I've the problem as well. Did you find out any solution? The button is like dead but the screen is on when i plug it in my PC.
make sure your walkman has plenty of charge
it sounds like it might be the battery losing charge
plug it into your computer
click start control panel administrative tools computer management device manager scroll down universal serial bus controllers it might be listed as a mass storage device
you could see a yellow question / exclamation mark? ! or a red X
you will need to update/reinstall drivers
right click to reinstall drivers
if you can see your usb drive but its not working
ports (com&lpt) right click update driver
