I have a Mag Innovision LT917s LCD monitor. About 2 weeks ago, it started to hiss when I first started the monitor. The hiss would go away after about 5 minutes and wouldn't give me any further problem, even after 10+ hours of being on. I fell asleep at the keyboard a couple of times and when I woke up, I saw a white screen. Thinking maybe it was just some sort of screen burn, I turned it off. The next time I started the computer, I saw the white screen again. I turned the monitor off and on a few times and then it was working again without issue again, even though it is on for 10+ hours. After that, each time I started the computer, it had the white screen which would last longer with each use. It wasn't all white as there were two white vertical columns in the center. So, the vertical hold is bad? Now the screen wont turn on at all and the green on/off indicator light just blinks. I detect a barely audible popping sound. I'm unemployed and it wasn't really a bad monitor. Is there a way for me to fix it, or has the trash collector gotten an extra 10lbs of electronics to add to his pile?

White screen means that the video signal is not getting from the vga board inside the monitor to the actual lcd screen panel. It may be a bad vga input board (also called a main board) OR It could be simply a bad connection on the wiring harness that connects this board to the lcd panel Or it could be a blown fuse on the board on the board that is permanently mounted to the back top of the lcd panel. I would check the wiring connection to the lcd panel inside the monitor first
Once the 4 screw at the bottom of the screen has been removed the frame surrounding the lcd should slide up and away. The display itself is fastened to the plastic back by 6/8 screws be careful when removing the lcd screen since it is still attached to the electronics in the back by cable connectors!
Hi this is the way how to examine what's wrong with your LCD
monitors. Power on both CPU and monitor. You
have to check that you can see the image on the screen by shining a flashlight into the
screen, not directly but find the best angle to the screen and take a look very
closely. If you can see the icons or any image, there will be a minor problem. This is because of lamps inside. Some
of them were broken and it is easily replaced. If you cannot see anything on
the screen, there'll be some problems with inverter board.
