Question about GE JES1290 Convection/Microwave Oven

1 Answer

My microwave/convection oven (a GE unit model JES1290SK) started beeping every few seconds and displaying F6 on the control panel. I unplugged it and waited several minutes and when plugged in it displays commands to set the clock but it won't allow me to. All of the buttons (including START/PAUSE, CLEAR/OFF) on the display refuse to respond except for the numbers. You can press up tp 4 numbers and then it goes back to the command for setting the clock. I called GE and they didn't have any idea. The unit is barely 1 year old and we only use it on weekends on our sailboat.

The technical sheets in my files do not list F6 on the error code chart for GE microwaves.

Generally, these are the error codes possible on GE microwaves:

F1 open thermal sensor (convection models)
F2 shorted thermal sensor (convection models)
F3 key panel shorted for more than 60 seconds
F4 open humidity sensor
F5 shorted humidity sensor

There should be a "mini-manual" (technical sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, & testing.

JES1290SK No power when on. Display works, work light works until enter is pushed. No motor movement

Does the convection work? If so likely you need a magnetron If the control panel is having problems then it needs to be repaired or replaced. It could be just a stuck relay inside so a firm hit may release it

Advantium display reads "nite"

The first thing I would suggest is a hard reset. Unplug the unit for a minute or so. Then plug it back in, set the clock and try again.

If that doesn't work, leave it unplugged for about 5 minutes. Feel free to contact me directly (see below) if you have other questions.- William E. Miller, AS-EET

I have a GH7208XRS-1 microwave convection oven. The plastic shell of the dorr was cracked, so I took the door apart, replaced the plastic shell and plugged all connectors back together. Once I plugged the...

These units have some connection problems, especially in the keypad / controller areas.

One way to fix it is to take it apart, disconnect the connectors one by one, and then plug and unplug them a couple of times to wipe any oxidation away, then replug them and put it back together.

If that doesn't fix it, then you may need a new key panel or controller, but I don't have enough documentation on these models to help further. They are vastly overcomplicated, increasing the odds of failure.

Code F6, E0, "Communication Error"

Hi. this code represents a key pad or control board malfunction. you will have to make sure the key pad or control panel connectors are connected tightly and securely. If the wires and connectors are secure, the actual control board may be faulty and you will need to replace it at this point.
