Do the self check this model has, when green power light comes on and then goes out on the front of the set press and hold both the Menu and Input (device) buttons at the same time for at least 5 seconds, then release both buttons and watch the power light, It will blink a two digit code, a error code.

Most common is 2 blinks, 2 blinks, a pause and then it will repeat the code several times.

Let me know what code you find and I will tell you what it means.

This is a self check meant to narrow down what kind of problem the set has.

Make a comment here so I can help.

The Problem you are having is a Cathode to Grid Short in the Red CRT,When it Shorts the screen will Go all Bright Red and shut Down,The Best fix Would Be to Replace the Defective CRT (GUN)

Set comes on with a blue screen with retrace lines, then shuts down. Turned down screen control on flyback, set stays on cannot control brill

The set is shutting down because the picture tube is been over driven, it is most likely the picture tube has a short in the blue gun, turning down the screen control drops the voltage to a safer level. The only other possibility is a short video driver and open feed resistor usually located on the video board on the back of the picture tube.

Red lines across screen

it sounds like a b+ cap going bad and is intermittant that feeds the the video drivers on the crt pcb or the crt is shorting. I have seen intermittant shorts in crt before.
