We have a whirlpool designer style fridge and there is water draining inside the fridge. What can be done to fix this issue? We have tried to fix it my unplugging the fridge for several hours and then replugging it in. This works for a few days, then the problem reappears. Water gathers on the inside shelf trays by the crispers. The Fridge Brand is Whirlpool Designer Style The Model # ET22DKXFW00

the power saver switch is used to activate a low wattage heater in the center rail between the freezer and refrig door to prevent moisture build in hot humid locations. if you live in a dry arid location then using it on pwer saver will save you some money on your power bill. if it sweats between the doors then the switch needs to be set to  reduce moisture to prevent mold and mildew build up on the seals and the water dripping on the floor. thanks Peyton

Your condenser fan is probably not running. 99 percent of the time that you feel that hot spot it is from the condenser fan not running and the unit is not rejecting any heat

SOURCE: water dripping onto back of shelves and into

There is a tube at the back of most fridges which routes freezer water to a evaporator tray at the bottom.

Usually in the fridge at the top just below the freezer is a small collection cup. If that cup or tube is blocked then it will drip water into your fridge.

Let me know if that helps.

I have a whirlpool designer 20 refrigerator, it is collecting water at the bottom. What is going on? How can I fix it?

In the freezer, under the cooling coil, is a drain pan that collects water after the coil defrosts. The drain opening from this pan is probably plugged with debris. If you can find the drain line under neath the refrigerator and blow through it, this will usually clear it.

Thank you for listing a model#!! It really helps to see what you have and lets me diagnose it better for you.

Whirlpool bottom freezers with ice forming on the freezer floor is nothing new. It is formed most likely by an ongoing issue with the design of the defrost drain becoming clogged and there is a revised kit for it part# W10619951.

Whirlpool has extended the warranty of this issue only to two years from the date of purchase and will usually give you the part but charge for install. This is for most models and you would have to call them to verify if it is covered.

It can be put in in less then 10 minutes using just a 1/4" hex bit and a small flat blade screwdriver to release the clip on the old "slide" style drain.

Once installed,it is best to defrost the fridge for at least 24 hours (doors open and unplugged) to make sure all ice is melted from inside the unit.

The problem should not come back afterward

Whirlpool refrigerator--water freezing in floor of bottom freezer then leaking onto floor

If your drawer was not closing, you would have frost.. If your defrost timer (which virtually no newer units have since digital controls are the norm with adaptive defrost) then you would have frost, not ice.

The fact that you have water is telling me it is defrosting and re freezing.

List a model# for further support if needed please

Water accumalating in the bottom of the fridge.

A common problem. All modern refrigerators have an automatic deicer. The heater kicks in, then MELTS the ice in build up in the freezer for a short period before freezing again. This water drains either in the fridge or out the back to the catch tray. Simply pull out the bottom drawers and clean the clogged drain hold where the water can drain and evaporate in the catch tray as it is designed to.

Hi freezer on american style fridge freezer is

there is a defrost mode that melts any frost or ice on the evaporator coils and drains it into a pan under the fridge. if that drain is blocked, the water will pool inside. also check the door seals. if warm moist air leaks in, it'll condense on the cold interior and pool as well.

Hi

Some leaking water refrigerator helps....

  1. My older style Amana freezer on top refrigerator is leaking inside
  2. My refrigerator is leaking water inside
  3. My refrigerator is leaking water onto the floor
My refrigerator is leaking water inside the fridge:

Most times this is a plugged defrost drain system. The defrost heater in the freezer section melts the frost and changes it to water, this water is suppose to flow down a drain system. If this drain system is restricted or plugged the water will leak inside the refrigerator. The drain system starts in the freezer section with a tray built under the evaporator coil. The water is funneled through a small hose into a cup in the top middle of the fresh food section ( not on all models, but this is the most common way ), from there, the water is directed out the back wall to a drain hose that runs down the back of the refrigerator into a condensing tray. The heat created under the fridge makes the water evaporate and disappear. Some of the cups ( in the top back of the fresh food section ) can be removed for cleaning. A turkey baster can be used to help clean out the drain system. Fill the baster with hot water and "blast" it into the drain hose to help flush it out. A piece of wire or pipe cleaner can also be pushed into the drain hoses to help clean then out. On a S x S style of fridge the drain system is in the bottom back of the freezer section and often you will have to remove the evaporator cover to access the drain hole. You can clean this out in the same manner as previously mentioned, but because of the water leaking into the freezer instead of the fresh food section you will have to remove the ice build up to clean out the drain system. For some reason Whirlpool has found a need to "hide" the drain hose inside the walls now ( Whirlpool makes many of the Kenmore branded refrigerators ) on there top freezer refrigerators. This makes accessing the drain hose to flush it out more difficult, no cup inside the fresh food section, no hose down the outside back wall and the only access is inside the freezer section behind the back false wall and under the evaporator coils.

Please do rate the solution as FixYa and revert for further assistance.

Thanks

Hi I have a whirlpool (IKEA) CBI 651 fridge/freezer, the condensation drain on the back wall of the fridge part is not draining away the water. Have tried to clean it out with red 'widget' supplied with no...

Try pouring some boiling hot water down the drain. If anything blocks the drain even slightly it will slow down the water and then freeze it. Air temp in the freezer is 0 degrees or close to that. That small of a hole it freezes quick. I'm not sure of the style of fridge this is. Side by side or top mount freezer. You are able to get to all drain pipes. If not boiling water. A hand steamer works great too.

Whirlpool refrigerator leaks water inside the frig. It gathers in the pan under the lowest sliding drawer. Possibly something to do with the icemaker? I don't use the icemaker -- I flipped up the bar...

Its a done deal...:) On MY whirlpool MODEL # ETICHMXKBO3 I found the drain hole frozen.. There was some debris and clogged it up and water froze up behind it causing the deck of my freezer to fill and freeze up and cause the water to drain into the fridge. Solution: remove the ice maker(if equipped) remove the rear aluminum cover. I used a heat gun and melted the 1 1/2 of ice build up and softly with a screw driver clean the drain. When drain is visible use scolding hot water until it starts flowing to the bottom tray. I used my air compressor to finish it off....
