I have a vgn-b3vp (pcg-5b1m) sony laptop, can i upgrade the memory if it has 512 of none-removable memory and only 1 bank.

Yes, you can use the 1 bank and get higher graded memory, another 512 in the 1 bank would make 1gig, you can probable get as much as 2 gig in the bank to make a total of 2.5 gigs by buying a 2 gig memory stick.

Thanks in advance for helping me to resolve this win 7 driver issue, I added 4GB from Fry's electronics cheap $25 and upgrad my daughter's Sony VGN-FE890N to Windows 7, cannot get the video driver to...

If you look at Sony's main site, this particular model is no longer being made or sold. There are a few refurb shops that sell it, but I don't see one in stock anywhere. It looks as though this was a strong 32 bit system originally. Makes me wonder why you chose the 64 bit route.

Sony will almost definitely not build drivers for a model it no longer makes and sells, as you'll find most manufacturers won't. My only suggestion at this point would be to try a 32 bit upgrade in Win 7 and see if that works.

Also, a 32 built system will often not recogize even a full 3 gig of ram. You might also try removing the 4 gig of ram and reinstalling your original ram. You didn't say which speed ram you used.

I want to upgrade my sony vaio VGN-AX570G to 4GB of RAM. I have been able to upgrade to 3GB but I want to use 4GB. Can anyone figure out my solution?

Hello!
I've checked the Sony website and it says the maximum amount of RAM you can put in the VGN-AX570G is 2GB.

I'm not sure why you are able to have 3GB, but it may be a fluke. It may be showing the memory but is not able to actually use the full 3GB.

Good luck! Make sure to rate any solutions you get!

Sony Vaio VGN CR-220E

Haha!

I had such dreams too with one of my old Vaio. I really wanted to upgrade the processor and graphic chipset. Turns out that the latter is impossible (it was soldered to the motherboard - it wasn't a graphics card, just an all-in-one chip), as for the processor I was able to take it out but I ran into several problems:
1) vaio added electronic components to the motherboard that made higher CPU speeds unachievable even if the motherboard's cipset (VIA) was able to do that.
2) the cpu maker (AMD in my case) kept telling me that their mobile cpu were custom designed for that specific laptop, so new cpu would be incompatible. Also mobile CPUs are, apparently, only sold to laptop makers, unlike OEMs... (eBay but at ur own risk!).
3) When buying a new CPU, u need to check factors such as the number of pins (mobile cpu are much smaller), voltage, current, wattage and heat dissipation (very important, ur current heat sink was designed for ur current cpu).

But maybe things have changed now. In my case, I could only upgrade the RAM and the hard-drive to larger and faster versions, and the difference was quite significant difference. Faster booting and better internet experience.
