Hi,
Dots, Lines, shadows and smudges on the printouts are due to dirty/ deteriorating cartridge and cleaning the green drum of the cartridge may help temporarily. Take out the cartridge and gently clean the roller/ green drum with a dry, soft, lint-free cloth wiping off the toner dots marks/ lines.
Also, make sure that the visible inside of the printer is clean and ther is no spilled toner inside, which sometimes results in dots. Double printing is also due to the deteriorating cartridge. The drum is not getting clean after its each rotation and hence the remaining toner/ image is transferred to the paper resulting in double printing. So, it is recommended that clean the drum etc (this would help temporarily). Also, make sure that the toner cartridge is in good working condition. If not you may replace the cartridge.
Let me know if any further clarification/ assistance is required.

GoodLuck!
Dont forget to appreciate the solution if I could have been of any help!

Inconsistent printing

In the printer's dialogue find the print pages number. Print page from/to and select 20 pages chunks. In effect print only part of the document at a time. Add all chunks together in one pile. Work around I know, but it works.

MY LEXMARK 4505 LEAVES 3-4 BLACK BLOTCHES ON THE EDGE OF EACH PAPER IT PRINTS, TRIED CLEANING THE ROLLERS TO NO AVAIL, ANY SUGESTIONS

ADJUST THE COLOR AND PRINT SPEED You may need to adjust the color and print speed. CHECK THE LEVEL OF INK IN THE PRINT CARTRIDGES 1 From the Finder desktop, double-click the Lexmark X5400 Series folder. 2 Double-click the Lexmark X5400 Series Utility icon. 3 From the Maintenance tab, check the ink levels of the cartridges. If an exclamation point (!) appears on a cartridge, the ink level is low. Install a new cartridge. Improving print quality These are possible solutions. Try one or more of the following: CHECK PAPER • Use the appropriate paper for the document. If you are printing photos or other high-quality images, for best results use Lexmark Photo Paper or Lexmark PerfectFinish Photo Paper. Do not use Lexmark Premium Photo Paper. Your print cartridges are not compatible with this type of paper. • Use a paper that is a heavier weight or bright white. CHECK PRINT CARTRIDGES If the document still does not have the print quality you want, follow these steps: 1 Align the print cartridges. For more information, see "Aligning print cartridges" on page. If print quality has not improved, continue to step 2. 2 Clean the print cartridge nozzles. For more information, see "Cleaning the print cartridge nozzles" . If print quality has not improved, continue to step 3. 3 Remove and reinsert the print cartridges. For more information, see "Removing a used print cartridge" on and "Installing print cartridges" . If print quality has not improved, continue to step 4. 4 Wipe the print nozzles and contacts. For more information, see "Wiping the print cartridge nozzles and contacts". If print quality is still not satisfactory, replace the print cartridges. For more information, see "Ordering print cartridges". The black print jobs have a shadow about 3 inches down the page

I had replaced the fuser - no improvement. I removed the fuser, imaging unit & transfer roller. CAREFULLY using a vacuum cleaner I cleaned all units and the internals of the printer, rotating the roller on the imaging unit to clean all parts. (Warning Place Imaging unit on paper as toner escapes) After a few test prints the page cleared and duplicate ghosting cleared.

Printer will not print entire document. If I have a 46 page doc, the printer only prints half. I enter the rest of the doc, and it prints maybe four pages then stops again.

Try printing pages 1 through 25, let printer cool down, print pages 26-46. I'm, thinking it's a print head overtemp problem. If the second printing will not do the complete 26 to end, let the printer set for a longer time to cool off and try again.

Printing black squares in word.doc

It sounds like this is an HP driver issue. HP drivers have built-in "optimizations" (that unfortunately have bugs) for things like printing photos. Different programs (word, for example) try to take advantage of these optimizations in different ways. When they work, they give superior photo printing (faster, with more accurate color). When they don't, you get black squares. This is why "converting" it to PDF worked for you -- Word printed it through the PDF driver instead of the HP printer driver, then when you printed the PDF file, that program avoided those optimizations when it sent the images to the printer. Unfortunately, the translation caused quality loss. If your goal was to print out something like a "proof-sheet" of photos, you might try the free photo organizer at www.preclick.com. It will print these for you, captions and everything, and should be able to avoid the driver issues.
