If found a very detailed list of instructions on kioskea.com. The last few sections cover resetting PC to factory settings without the original disks, using a hidden D partition on the hard drive. A password is required and the last section tells how to even recover the password is forgotten/lost.

Hope this helps,

Acer are cheap and they don't provide you with a factory restore disk. You need to make this factory disk yourself. I know how to do this, but it is to much for me to type and here is a really really good reference site for you to visit to get instruction to make your own factory restore disk. After making that restore disc, pop the disk into your laptop and turn of your laptop and restart and the factory restore program should start, if it should not start then go into your bios menu and have it boot from your Dvd-Rom and save, after full restoration, make sure you turn your boot priority back to where your Os is being installed, exm hard drive. http://www.ehow.com/how_4478845_restore-acer-computer-factory-settings.html
Hi,
You can restore the computer back to factory default,to do so, follow
the below steps: Turn OFF the computer, now as soon as you hit the power
button, keep on holding "Alt" key & keep on tapping "F10" key, i.e
Alt+f10, it will open the recovery console, select full factory restore
and follow onscreen instruction. NOTE: This will erase all the data on the computer.
You can also create a set to Recovery disk from the recovery partition, to do so
Start Menu> All Programs> Acer erecovery management> Click
Create Factory Default Disk, if you receive any error code or unable to
burn the disk, please contact Acer Technical support at 1 800 816 2237
and order for an Recovery Disk.
Thanks and regards,
Jitha
