Color wheel sounds like a buzz saw. Fan is quiet because there is no noise in the cool-down mode. Can this be replaced by user?

Baily, I have had my HC1500U color wheel replaced two times due to the color wheel's unpleasant "buzz saw" effect showing up every few thousand hours of usage. It is happening again for the third time and I am still within Coscto's warranty so I am going to have it replaced again...will never buy a DLP projector again...too many moving parts that can break!

Would love to be able to replace it myself if you ever find a place that sells the color wheel.

Optoma DV10 color wheel

Okay, I recently had a loud noise coming from my projector and found online meterial stating that the colour wheel had been damaged. So with a bit of guts I managed to open the projector and found the colour wheel missing a segment.

I removed the colour wheel and the broken piece of the segement and tried to contact Optoma. Optoma turned round and said they cannot sell me the the colour wheel, which got me very upset. Some people claim online that Optoma will sell you the part on a back order at £50. (if you can be a little specific on how you managed to convince them to sell you the part, would be great).

The only option I had available was to send my project to them and they would repair for an estimated cost of £125+VAT. Guess what, you can buy the entire projector off ebay for 150quid!!!

Anyways after fiddling around quite a big online I got fedup and decided to glue the broken segment together and it SOLVED the loud vibration problem. I have colour and picture.

Becareful not to tighten the colour wheel screw too tight orelse it will break another piece of segement (Like I did).

Here are instructions on how to open up the projector.

I cannot guarantee this will work for you as it depends on how badly you have shattered the colour wheel segment, so do at your own risk. I had two piece of the segment broken and a third by tightening the colour wheel screw too tight.

This will work for awhile but the colour wheel does need replaceing one day. If anyone can tell me how you can get Optoma to sell you the colour wheel would be great.

Best of Luck

Optoma DV10 MovieTime Color Wheel replacement

Hi guys

Your best bet on getting your hands on a Service Manual would be to contact Optoma themself.

As for changing the colour wheel , it is pretty straight forward if you were able to open up the unit and get to it.

The colourwheel is mounted with three tiny scrws to a bracket in which it sits. And the bracket in it's turn is fastenend to the body of the Projector with two tiny screws.

First unscrew the bracket from the casing of the Projector and then take off the three screws that holds the Colour wheel to the bracket. Replace and do the whole proses again - but obviously just the other way round.

This is really easy to do yourself.

Give me a shout if you need any further assistance.

Thanks for using Fixya and good luck.
