What you can do is go to Start-Run, type in CMD and hit Enter. Then, if you have only one hard drive partition and one DVD, type this
chkdsk /f e:
chkdsk is a command-line disk checking utility, the /f string stands as "scan and fix" instruction. The last letter (e:) is the Samsung's drive letter.
I had a similar problem with 1.5TB hard drive and the CHKDSK procedure fixed some partition parameters.
If this doesnt help, use the Easeus free partition recovery tool. It helped me on numerous ocasions. Install it and run the Partition Recovery procedure and just follow through the steps, they're pretty self-explanatory.
Hi tried the chkdsk command and it says that it does not work on raw disks (whatever that means) so I will try the partition recovery tool. Cheers
if it's seen as a RAW disk then the partition table is damaged. My guess is that the power failure of the USB tray caused this. All your data is still on the hard drive, and you can take it out with any recovery tool such as GetMyDataBack. With Easeus partition tool you can try to rebuild the MFT (master file table, that basically works as a content page, helping the system to know which file is where). What happened is when the power failure hit the hard drive the MFT got damaged, and now the system cannot read this file. And if it cant read the MFT it thinks the hard drive is RAW, ie. not formatted and blank. In either case, a MFT rebuild or a partition rebuild (depending on the Easeus version you'll use) should solve your problem.
IF it doesnt help you'll have to opt for a data recovery procedure, but then you'll need another hard drive where you can copy the files from the Samsung drive. Once your files are copied you can format the drive and copy them back again.
Hope this helps.
