Arris SB5100 SURFboard DOCSIS 2.0 Cable Modem (50120900100) Logo
Posted on Apr 05, 2017

Hello, I'd like to see if I can get assistance due to connection problems that I'm currently experiencing while using an SB5100 modem. On the Help tab I found this information: Software Version: SB5100-2.3.6.0-SCM00-NOSH Hardware Version: 3 MIB Version: II GUI Version: 1.0 VxWorks Version: 5.4 I can surf with no problems, however, the modem seems to be having broadband issues when connecting to certain sites and servers. My ISP quotes that my connection is optimal, however I feel that there's something wrong because I see that date on the logs for the modem to be 1970-01-02. Please feel free to contact me at anytime for assistance. Thank you.

SOURCE: ARRIS Modem + D-Link router = no internet

when you are on Cable Internet with a "modem" only connected directly to the computer, what the ISP see is the computer's MAC Address (command prompt -> type ipconfig and hit enter).

put a router (which has it's own MAC Address) in-between and the ISP wont let you cause it sees the router not the computer.

check physical connection: cable modem -> router -> computer(hard wire for this troubleshooting)

access the d-link gui and locate the “Clone MAC Address" button (supposed to clone the computers MAC Address - verify if it's the same), save settings & reboot the router.

SOURCE: Router cannot connect to the internet.

Turn everything off:
Cable modem unplug the power to the modem if it has a battery remove it.
Router unplug the power to the router
Shutdown any and all computers connected to the router

Turn everything on in this order:
Cable modem wait until all the lights are on but the internet act light
Router wait until the lights goes through it's test cycle and the internet light (wan) is on.
Boot up the computers one at a time after the first computer is fully loaded go to the next computer

Hope this helps

SOURCE: Dear forum-freinds,

Hi,
If you say the lights are going out on the modem when it boots you off the network then the problem is your modem and not your internet connection, if the modem is new take it back and have them swap it for another one.

Regards.

SOURCE: When my isp lease time expires, I lose my internet

Hi, The issue seems to be with the modem. It should reconnect you even if the lease expires and is renewed. you may try upgrading the firmware for the modem. You may also reset the modem and reconfigure it.

I am about to change from dial up to broadband using Motorola's SB5100 series cable modem which was given to me. Should I remove the dial up bits from my computer before installing the SB5100, or just...

It is best to remove the dial up portions because it will help eliminate confusion within your system as to which connection to use. You will be much happier once you get hooked up with broadband....good luck.

Need to get wireless on my laptop,

No, the SB5100 is just a cable modem, not a wireless router. You will need to keep your sb5100 but you will need to purchase a wireless router if you want wireless on your laptop. If you can also plug your laptop into the sb5100 via an ethernet cable for your internet connection. Linksys and Belkin and others make wireless routers that you can use for your wireless connections.

I can't install modem drivers for SB 5100 motorola (usb) on my laptop having windows vista. An error is showing that no cable found connecting the modem and computer. Can someone help me how to set this...

Here are the current windows Vista drivers from motorola:

Hope this helps you on your journey

Let me know if you have anything else.

I also would recommend you use ethernet since you do not have to install any software to make it work.

You will need to reboot the cable modem when ever you change how its connected also Ethernet/USB or if it was connected to a different PC.

Inability to connect to Internet

The easiest solution would be to use an ethernet connection. A second problem is probably on most cable modems you can either use a USB connection OR an ethernet connection you cannoot use both at the same time.

Motorola sb5100 surfboard - ps3

Have you rebooted your modem after hooking it up? Each time you move your connection from your modem, it must be rebooted to issue new information specific to your equipment. Also, make sure you haven't pushed the "Standby" button on the top.

Motorola surfboard sb5120 usb driver problem

Hi, Create a temporary folder say C:\Motorola and put all your unzipped Motorola USB drivers. Install your Cable Modem. If and when Windows asked where the drivers may be located, point to the C:\Motorola. If your modem has already been installed and operational and you simply want to update its current drivers > go to Device Manager and right click on your modem to update, likewise point to the C:\Motorola. Hope this be of some help/idea. Post back how things are or should you need further information. Good luck and kind regards.
