We are not getting colour on our DVD using audio/video connectors for DVD player. We are getting colour on our TV using audio/video connectors for the satellite dish.
Only satellite component allows for single cable connector.

if you want to hooked up your dvd player to a tv unit, you can use an rca connector. usually 3 wires for video and L/R audio. to connect with in the tv plug one end of the connector to the component input jack of the tv ( video/audio L/R ). and the other end of the connector just plug to the video/audio output jack of the dvd player.
3 possible solutions to your problem starting with the easiest:
1. The audio/video cable is bad. It is possible the video side of the cable has a short. 2. Inputs on the back of the TV are mislabeled or aren't matching up with how you are connecting or using the inputs. Feel free to post a picture of the back of the unit with your cords attached and I can tell you for sure. 3. Some dvd players require you to select which video output mode to use. Most of the newer ones come defaulted to hdmi output and might need a menu selection changed to output using component or composite outputs (whichever you are using). Composite will just have the red and white connector for audio and a single yellow connector for video. Component uses the same 2 audio connectors and then red, green, blue conectors for the video.
Hi, Component input connectors use the colour convention
Green = Y (luminance signal)
Red = Pr or Cr (Red colour difference signal)
Blue = Pb or Cb (Blue colour diffrence signal)
Composite input connectors use the colour convention
Yellow = CVBS (composite video, blanking, sync)
Red = Audio Right
White = Audio Left
for compatibility both units will need to have matching colours. note the component inputs do not have audio and as such will also have a set of red & white connectors for use with the audio signals too ( rule of thumb Component = 5 connectors, composite=3 connectors)
Hopefully you've already sorted this problem out, but here's my answer.
If using component video connections, you need to be careful to connect all three plugs correctly at both ends, as well as the two audio channels. That's five RCA connectors at each end.
Sounds like you have only connected the Y signal between the TV and DVD, and have missed the other two (PbCb, PrCr) which carry the colour information.
If you are using a Scart connector, make sure it is fully pushed into the scart sockets on both the TV & DVD, If you are using composite cables (3 leads coloured yellow/whie & red), ensure the red & white cables are coming from the Audio Out on the DVD & going into the Audio IN on the TV. The yellow one will be correct as this is the video content.
as you say that it is old tv so there is a possibility that there may not be audio video socket where dcd player can be connected.
OR
You will have to purchase one video RF converter.RF converter contains one video input in yellow color & two audio input in red & white colour & one cable connector as output.
Connect the dvd output to this converter & tune tv program in which place you receive dvd signal.
If you do not get result you can purchase one video rf converter.
Rf converter contains one video input in yellow colour and two audio in red and white colour and one cable connector as outout.
Connect dvd output to this converter and tune the program in which place you receive dvd signal.
