1) You possibly have a bad or nearly dead battery. Transmit takes more energy than receiving. With this in mind, your radio's transmit will fail, if you have a poorly charged or bad battery, when pressing the PTT. Try a battery from a known good radio to see if it eliminates the problem. If so, replace your battery.

2) The radio is either programmed incorrectly or in need of repair. If you have been experimenting with the programmable features, we suggest you walk back through the steps of programming. Here is a link to the user guide: http://www.mytoolstore.com/motorola/rdx_userguide.pdf Programming instructions begin on page 36.

3) If in need of repair. Radios less than one year old should be under warranty, barring any physical or water damage to the unit. Contact the place of purchase or Motorola for warranty instructions.
If the radio is more than one year old you can get it repaired at any dealer offering Motorola repair. (approx. $85 flat rate)

Best regards.

After cloning transmits only once

Out of habit, after I clone a radio, I turn it off before transmitting. I think it does a reset and saves the information. So, do that, turn it back on and try again. If the problem persists, try manually or with the software programming it. If it still will not save the information, the radio is in need of repair. Please post if this worked.

How do I program the RDU2020 radio to work withmy XU2100 ?

Here is a link to the RDX series page at Motorola, in the lower right corner there is a link to the user guide for your RDU2020 radio. In the user guide there is a very good explanation of matching the XU2100 to the RDU2020. The RDU radio was the next model in line after the XU2100 and was designed to work with it. http://www.motorolasolutions.com/US-EN/Business+Product+and+Services/Two-way+Radios/On-site+Business+Radios/Discontinued/RDU2020_US-EN

On our 2-way radios we can transmit on one but not on the other one. the model # is RDU2020

A few thoughts:
1. Has your programming recently been changed (by hand or computer)? You might want to check the settings and see if one of the radios is now on a different frequency or PL code.
2. Check your battery. It takes more energy to transmit than to receive. Swap the batteries between the two radios and see if the problem moves to the other radio.
3. Check the mic hole to see that it isn't covered or plugged with debris. (You will find it somewhere on the face of the radio. It is sometimes slightly behind the Motorola label.
4. If none of these seem to solve the problem, check with your local dealer, or a nationwide service center. Typical flat rate repair is $85 for this style unit.

Best regards.

I had a similar problem - my Talkabouts would not transmit - after checking the interference codes, qt, etc, it turns out the rechargeable batteries weren't able to handle the 1-watt mode. I switched to another FRS channel that only transmitted at .5 watts, and that seems to have cured the problem, but the range is probably reduced. With another set, I chucked (recycled) the rechargeables and placed 3 new AAA's in and it worked like a champ for a long time. Hope this helps
