There should be a metal pin on the back left side(tool facing you) near the pivot point. Just pull this in or out to lock/unlock the safety position.

Replace the Stator!

there is a nut holding the blade in the center , it is left handle thread , there should be a locking mechanism to hold the blade while you unscrew the nut

is this to change the blade?
they unlock clockwise.

go to MAKITA TOOLS.COM under benchtop on the menu select miter saws and your model number once in there there is a menu showing instruction manual, parts assembly and you can geta full print out diagram of how it should go together
