I try to record onto Tascam Pocketstudio5 but when I play back the audio starts and then there is a screeching sound for a few seconds and the rest of the recording is lost. (The Tascam uses Compact Flash memory cards to store recordings). Any idea what could be causing this to happen? WHen I bought the product 2nd hand I was supplied with an adapter / plug which is not Tascam but Uniross. It has optional voltage levels. I have it set to 9V. Could this be causing a problem?

Hello tasbones and razzledog !I expect the following will help you solving the problems with the pattern file of pocketstudio5 (TASCAM):You need the original CD-ROM which includes the pattern file with many different drums and sound stuff. You have to put these data on a formatted cf-card (everytime again if you will use a new card) !This info comes from a german musician who had the same problem 5 years ago.Try the following Link of TASCAM where you can download the manual, an update and the PATTERN FILE !www.tascam.de   --> "Support" --> "download" --> "nicht mehr hergestellte Produkte" --> "pocketstudio5"If this will not work, give me a sign - I will try to send the data to you via mail.freewood/Berlin, Germany

I never had that problems. I have been using it over five years. Does it play commercially made CDs (the ones you bought at the store)? Panel shows track numbers and sound volume? Can you hear it by using a head set (phone volume control turned up? If so, now recording part, do you have input select correct (analog or digital)? Input cable(s) into right connector(s)? When you press "record" button, does it put into "pause" mode? Can you watch the incoming sound levels when it is on "pause" mode? Can you start the recording with remote's fader button or play/pause button on the machine? Good luck.

SOURCE: Tascam dr-1 recording problem

There is a "PB Control" button. I had the same problem. You've inadvertently told it to change the speed or something on playback. Make sure that none of the indicators at the top of the screen are active (i.e., white letters on black background). Press the PB Control button to toggle it on/off. Also, any files transferred to a computer will not be affected.

How to record with Multi-effects feature on Tascam DP 01

I'm not familiar with the Tascam DP-01 but many multi-track recorders don't commit effects to the track until the mixdown phase. The thinking being that you cannot eliminate a "bad choice" effect once it's down to tape (old school term) and so they allow adding the audio tweaks at the final stages of recording. Here they hope you can appreciate the entire mix and then decide what sweetners to add.

Want to copy files from Tascam 788 to IMAC's Garage Band

The problem is thus. You have a multitrack recording saved in a format that your portastudio recognizes and you want to use it on your imac. If you can copy the file to the imac as a file, a translator, if one is available, will make it usable by the mac. You won't be able to play it and record on the imac because maintaining the recording as multitrack would require one output from the portastudio and one input on the imac for each recorded track.
Bummer dude. The kluge method would be to play/record 2 tracks at a time (or however many outputs and inputs are available) and hope for some semblance of time alignment, after which you can fine tune it and then start your editing.

Having problems recording and playing back tascam dc-02 cf

I'm assuming you are plugging the left and right outputs from the karaoke machine into input A and B of the Tascam to record the stereo output of the Karioke. The Tascam works with mono only (you recreate the stereo mix at mixdown or when bouncing mono tracks together with the panning set). Therefore you should be assigning inputs A and B separately. You could press assign A and then the record button above track 1 and then press assign B and the record button above track 2. Then arm tracks 1 and 2 (by pressing record above each). When you then press play and record together you'll record input A onto track 1 and input B onto track 2.

Hope this helps.

Recordings play but skip every other second

you either don't have enough space on your computer for it to find the file and replay it(computers don't record in one solid track ,they take pieces and store them where ever they can. This is why its not good to defrag your comp. once you start a project) or you need to increase your buffer
