Hi I live in NZ and have a Humminbird 383c GPS Chartplottter which was purchased in the US. approx 2 years ago.It has a transom mounted transducer which I mounted in a piece of plastic pipe, epoxied in the bilge of my Fibreglass boat and with a screw top on it to seal the container. It has been satisfactory up until now when the head, when powered up, tells me the Transducer is not connected and defaults to simulator mode. When I opened the transducer mount 'tube' up I found that the mounts were brittle and broken and that the trans/ wire had gone hard.I originally filled the cavity with sunflower oil but I suspect the oil has attacked the plastic, any thoughts?? cheers Don

Don,

We would recommend that you replace the transducer (if you want to keep the transducer inside the hull you may use the
XP 9 20 T with temperature and you can use epoxy to mount the transducer) If you want to keep in the compartment you have created you may want to just put water in the compartment with the transducer so its not shooting through the air.

How to install MHX HS

It is my understanding that Hummingbird MHX HS is a transom mount kit. So it will depend on what you are mounting. It is likely the mount instructions are available with the transom transducer you are going to mount. Please drop a comment to clarify.

Gps problem

If the new harness / parts are listed for use with this model GPS, it should work - unless you have miswired something. Double-check your work. Make sure all connections are made up tight. Pay particular attention to the ground wire. Relying on the boat to pass ground it not reliable. Look for damaged or cut cable from power source and transducer. You may wish to troubleshoot with a meter or a test light to be sure power is available at the GPS. Good luck!

Hi. Just wondering how should the transducer for my humminbird 525 fish finder/sounder be installed correctly? Thanks

You can take a picture of the transom of your boat and email it to Humminbird and they will email it back to you where the transducer should be mounted at. Our email address is [email protected].

Navman 4500 fish finder w/transom mount transducer

I finally got an email reply from Navman. If the unit is less than two years old (mine is not) they will repair it. If it is over two years old, or if you can't prove that it is less than two years old, you can ship it to them and they will repair it for the low, low price of 355 US dollars.

Pretty nice of them since it appears these units are highly problematic isn't it? I am wondering if they guarantee their fix, or just have you on the hook for another 355 dollars later.

Good Luck Everyone,

Walt

383c transducer gives nothing but noisy red feedback at medium or high speeds

If it works at low speeds fine but has problems at higher speeds, basically you need to lower the transducer down further as it is lifted by the boat at higher speeds, or is getting caught in the turbulence of surface water created at higher speed. Lower the transducer a half inch at a time and re-test.
