I have a Wurlitzer 1015 with a 50 CD Changer (CDM-12). The CD loads on the player but does not alway start to spin and after a while the CD is returned. Sometimes the CD does start, but it sounds a littloe garbled like the speed is not right or something. What should I do.... who can fix this type of problem?
Re: I have a Wurlitzer 1015 with a 50 CD Changer...
I can fix your problem. It is either the CD player itself, or the CD control board underneath. Please email me for the instructions to remove these parts to send in for repair, [email protected].

I saw a recent video about this on a record juke box and it was linkages and range sensors that needed cleaning. It definitely mentions that the record wasn't being held properly and was wobbling.
Unless you have specialized equipment to align the laser, do not try to change the laser. That being said, when I have problems with a CD juke that I track down to the player, I change the whole player (the silver unit about 4"x6"). Enco systems .net has new and rebuilt CDM-pro players. If it as older one, other places rebuild them. Enco has a list of player symptoms on their home page to determine if you need a player.
I can help you troubleshoot further over the phone.....there are different troubleshooting sequences depending on which player version you have...Please email [email protected].
Either the CD player, CD control unit, or Selection & Credit Computer are defective. I can help over the phone with troubleshooting, please email [email protected].
I've just had a look at the link you posted. That's not the right unit. Electronically it is but not the base it is attached to is not for a Wurlitzer unit. It's a rock-ola (I think). If you are in the Uk contact Sound Sense Electronics. They will sort it out for you.
As far as I know the CD player for a machine of that age was a CDM 12. Your diagnosis is right but the same symptom can be caused by the control pcb underneath the cd player (you can see the led display to the right of the player. That's the control pcb). But generally it is the cd player itself.
However, you should also know that a similar thing happens when the laser eye is dirty from dust. But it doesn't sound like that to me. If it is dust the cd spins properly...stops....spins again....and then gets put back. If it spins as if it is having problems spinning it is usually the laser unit.
It's sensitive to static so touch any part of the metal of the jukebox that is definitely shiney metal to discharge yourself. To remove it you undo the four posi screws at each corner of the oblong unit. It's about the size of a large pack of cigarettes. Lift it up about an inch and you will see three plugs going into the sides. One on one side and two on the other. They just pull off with a bit of wiggling. (make a note where they go). While you are there take note that there are two loose metal spacers that the unit sits on, on the far two corners where the screws came out. They can easily get knocked off when you lift up the unit.
Transfer the black metal bracket piece on the top, to the other unit .....it's just two screws. And replace in the reverse order.
Make sure when you put the new unit back that you have the two metal spacers in place or it wont sit down correctly.
When the carousel reaches the correct count, the computer sends a signal to the gripper motor to start it. You could have a bad motor or a bad computer. But!....if the little switch at the front of the machine is in the off position (Gripper motor On/Off) that will give exactly the same effect. It's easy to knock Off when you are loading CDs.
I asked a Wurlitzer engineer about this problem and he simply said, "Bend it a bit."
Sounds horrible but there is no genuine adjustment. But before doing that, try moving the carousel lock latch (at the 5 oclock position). This is what locks the carousel and determines its position when the correct CD number is reached. If you could ****** or advance it a little it might work.
When the disc is taken from the carousel and put on the player how long does it take for it from the time it is placed onto the player to being returned to the carousel? Also is the cd spinning when its on the player or not spinning at all. The answers to these questions should help in pinpointing the actual problem.
