My Philips 30PF9946 has no picture, but sound is ok. It lightes up shortly when turned off. What is wrong?

You have sound but no picture. Green power light is on and NOT flashing. You get a screen flash or flicker on power-up or even a minute of screen before going all black. It is your inverter board. Common problem on LCDs (maybe more so on Phillips?). They are easy to replace (unplug-plug) and are available on the net.
