The tip of my weller 200D soldering iron was replaced about a month ago. I have just plugged it in to use it and it is not getting hot anymore.

This happens quite frequently. On the tip there are two nuts that hold the tip to the gun. Tighten them a bit. The tip is made of copper and as this heats, it causes the connection where the nuts are to become a higher resistance and thus lower heat. When you tighten them, it "cuts" through the copper oxidation (caused by the heat) and lowers the resistance, hence more heat.

Do stained glass soldering tips go bad or stop working. I have a weller soldering iron that doesn't heat up hot enough to solder. is it the tip or the iron

If this is the dual trigger Weller gun and your tips are held in place by either set screws or by locking nuts, Just loosen both of the parts that are holding the tip to the gun and then retighten them back up. Soldering iron tips that appear to be tight might not be and this will insure that the tip is indeed tight and also cleans up the connection of the tip to the soldering iron. Oxidation from heating and cooling will cause a tip to not get very hot. Loosen the tip holder and then retighten it. Hope this gets you going again.

Weller WES51 does not heat up unless I turn to 700 degrees or higher

You may have a broken wire in the temp sensor in the tip of the iron or near where the iron connects to the base.

Solder tip is worn out need to replace, how do I remove the old one weller model W-TCP

The barrel to the soldering iron has a nut on it and the nut unscrews and the whole barrel comes off. The tip then comes out of the barrel.

Iron will not heat---could it be the tip? How can I check the iron w/o replacing the tip?

If the iron is not getting hot at all then the tip is not the issue. I would goto a local hardware store like home depot or lowes and buy a replacement wall plug. You should first cut, strip back the wires and replace the plug as per its instructions. If the Iron still doesn't heat up after this you should unplug it and dissemble the body of it, you have to unscrew the 3 screws on the top and slide the body down. There will be wire nut connections for the electronics from the wall plug cable to the actual iron, check that they are connected properly. Often there is a break in the pinch point of the cable at the end of the irons body. For solving this I like to cut the wire below the pinch point, strip the wires back and redo fresh connections at the wire nuts. Good luck!

I have a Weller 1002B soldering station. Haven't

Hi, I'm not sure the tip is defective. Check that the tip is screwed in tight. If it is not good and tight the tip will not get a good heat transfer from the solder wand. Hope this helps. If the wand will heat then the tip should.

MY WELLER SOLDERING GUN IS GETTING HOT AND A LITTLE SMOKE COMES OUT NOW AND AGAIN IS THERE ANYONE IN SOUTH AUSTRALIA WHO CAN FIX IT FOR ME AS WELLER SAY THEY DONT DO ANY REPAIRS ON THEM. CHRIS

these are not worth repairing as the main part of a soldering iron is the transformer which is what causes the tip to get so hot, so if yours is giving off smoke and excessive heat probably the transformer is starting to cook itself which means it has to be replaced. I would guess that the transformer will cost you more then a replacement soldering gun on ebay would cost. Hope This Helps Don

Tinning tips

Flux the tip, heat the iron, apply solder all over the tip and wipe, while hot, the solder off with fine steel wool.

If the solder is flux core, no need for additional flux

Good Luck

No longer melts solder with tip....

You have burned out residue on the tip. Clead it off with a damp cloth when the iron is hot. If this doesn't get it all, use steel wool. Immediately afterwards, get flux & solder onto the tip or it will get coated again.
