Most likely your iPhone battery is dead. If you have the AppleCare and hasn't expired Apple will replace your iPhone battery free of charge.
If it has expired you can pay about $50 (I think) and Apple will replace the battery. If you think that's too much go to Amazon/Ebay and look for an "iPhone Battery Replacement Kit." Remember if you do decide to do the battery replacement yourself. You're voiding your Apple warranty & they won't replace it.
Most likely "Restarting "your iphone will fix this issue:
How to Restart iPhone ~
To
restart the iPhone 3g ~Hold the top power switch down and the home
button (circle button located on the face at the bottom of the
iphone)for 30
seconds until the screen goes black and the apple logo appears. during
this restart the iphone will prompt you to "slide to power off" Ignore
this and continue holding the two buttons until the apple logo appears.
When the iphone is finished restarting the home page will appear *unless
you have a password set then the password prompt will appear.
I had the same problem with my iphone and I thought there was no hope because none of the charging methods would work.....This Did !
Unfortunately the iphone battery does go bad sometimes and in that case the only option is to take it to an apple store and pay for repair (which is usually more expensive than replacing the iphone).
Hope this info helped!
Teresa
P.S. Restarting your iphone once a week will keep your iphone healthy!
