unplug the modem and wait 30 seconds. Modems remember the MAC address of the last device connected to them. If it was connected to your laptop and working fine, then it has stored the MAC address of your laptop and will only communicate with the laptop. You need to connet the router and unplug the modem to clear the memory, then plug it back in so that it stores the MAC address of your router.

Have you tried to reset router. It has to be done in order.
1. unplug router
2. unplug modem
3. shut down computer and restart after waiting 1 min
4. after restarting computer plug power back into modem and wait for all the lights to start blinking
5. after the modem is working plug power back to router and plug in the computer with ethernet cable and make sure you have internet,
6. try to link up with wireless,
If this does not work you will have to setup the router for wireless if it is att wireless you will have to call them to give you the password to set it up.

I am trying to connect a wrt150n wireless linksys router to my dsl. I am using a desktop windows 7 and laptop windows vista. Please help, I have tried everything but it just does not want to work.

unplug everything, including ethernet cables. then work in this exact order.
if you get a wireless signal and no internet, plug a computer in into the router in one of the available ports and check for internet. If no internet, unplug everything and test the modem without the router. If internet available without the router, then follow these instructions

plug phone line into modem
plug power into modem
wait for all lights to become steady
plug ethernet cable into modem
plug other end of same cable into port labled "internet"
wait for lights to become constant on both router and modem
check your wireless device for wireless service.

if you dont get a wireless signal at all, plug your device into the rear of the router and type 192.168.1.1 in the adress bar
the password and username are both "admin" or simply leave the password blank if that doesn't work

navigate to the wireless option and turn on the wireless transmiter.

hello, im confused here, have you a cable modem or telephone line. if you have a cable modem then you plug an ethernet lead rj-45 from your modem to your router.but if you've a telephone line then you have to connect a filter to you telephone box an a rj-11 lead from your filter to your router hope it helps

I have Time Warner Service set up @ home for my Home PC. I bought a Netgear N300 Wireless Router for my laptop. Do I have to plg into the Time Warner Modem to set up my Laptop? ANd what do I do?

The modem wants to plug into the wan or internet port on the router, this port is usually different in color and location from other wired ports.

You will want to program the router settings, either use the wizard, or change: Wireless security wit WEP at least, and give a password, like you home or cell phone number (which you can remember when a guest comes and needs access), change system ID to something you would remember, change router access password AND LOG IT,
and check that the router broadcasts it's presence (usually set to yes), and finally change the channel to 11 and get less landline wirelss phone interference.

To do this programming, by the way, you usually need to plug into the modem with a network cable and direct your browser to it, something similar to 192.168.1.1 in the address bar, but get the manual and follow their directions.

Want to connect 2 routers to 1 modem

as far as I know it would not work due to auto configuration of DHCP settings in the router when using cable internet. You may have to manually configure this to get it to work. If you are using dsl, I dont think it will work at all.

If it was to work, this is how I would do it:

Using Cat 5 cabling
Modem -> N Router -> G Router

Be sure to plug modem into the uplink port on N router. Then go from port 1 on N router to uplink on G Router. Set both routers to DHCP setting and see if that works. Im going to try this when I get home. It actually sounds ideal, never thought of it myself.

Ok in this case the problem is more than likely a generic one for all modems. All modems like to bind themselves to whatever device you have initially plugged in when you plug in the power cable for the modem. My guess is you had the pc hooked up directly to the modem and then plugged in the poewr cable to the modem.

To fix this you need to unplug the router and modem cables for 2 minutes. Plug in the modem with it being hooked up to nothing but the wall [Power Cable and Internet Cords hooked up only; no pc yet]

Your router is probably not need to be bridged so there should be a small hole somewhere on the router normally on the back or bottom saying reset. Press and hold that button with the router only plugged into the power no internet or pc [Although it doesnt matter if the pc is hooked up to the router] for at least 10 seconds. This will cause the router to reset to the factory default settings undoing the bridge. After this time the modem should say it has internet and whatever else except a activity light and similar things.

What you want to do now is unplug the router from the power and hook up the modem to the router and then plug the power cable back into the router.

After all this you should be able to go into the pc and access the router and set up the settings you like or need for the router if you want. Otherwise you should have internet again.

looks like a common issue on routers and cable modem, well a little common.

the power comming fromt he modem (information pass) is too much for the internet port on the router to handle that it quits if the surge from the modem comes.

here is what you do:

get a longer ethernet cable to connect your modem and the router, may 10-15 feet ethernet cable, put it in a coil and tie a knot in the middle, just look at the picture below.

once this is done, you may access the router's page again and make sure that the MAC clone feature is enabled and perform a power cycle. power down the modem and the router, power up the modem first, wait for around a minute or until the ONLINE light is steady and then turn the router on. after that try your connection on the router.

Cable modems and routers must be turned on in a specific way. First, unplug both the router and modem. Next, plug the ethernet cable from the modem, into the cable router, and unplug the cable from the modem to the computer. Next, turn on the modem, and wait for all of the lights to stay static (usually there's 4 lights, the main one we're interested in, is the status light). Next, plug in and turn on your router. You should now be able to access the router and configure it for your internet connection.

Step 1: Shutdown the computer.
Step 2: Unplug the router’s power cable.
Step 3: Unplug the Broadband modem’s power cable and wait for 30 seconds.
Step 4: Plug in the Broadband modem’s power cable and wait for its lights to appear stable.
Step 5: Plug in the router's power cable once the modem’s lights appear stable.
Step 6: Power on the computer on and test the Internet connection.

Hi,

Please follow the physical connection setup to get your connection working,

1. Connect the modem cable to the router in the yellow color slot

2. Connect your computer to any one of the grey slot of the router

3. If your Internet Service Provider is cable provider (like Comcast, Cablevision) , then
unscrew the coaxial cable(TV cable) from the cable modem and unplug the power cable from the modem also unplug the power cable of the router then wait for 1min .

4. After a minute first screw in the coaxial cable and the power cable to the cable modem and wait till all the lights comes up on the modem , then turn on the Belkin router.

5. Then the light on the router will be Green , You will be able to access the internet .
