LCD monitor image

Yesterday the image on my monitor looked very strange - as if everything was smeared slightly to the right. Today it's even worse - black letters on a white screen have long grey smudges to the right and everything else also looks smudged to the right.

I just had the same problem! Was afraid I needed a new video card. (--a suggestion found on another forum.) But a friend suggested a low tech solution. After turning the computer off, I opened the CPU casing and blew pressurized air inside to clear the dust out and the problem went away. Hope this helps.

My 2 year old Syncmaster 740N often has multiple faint images behind text in any program and multiple faint desktop icons making it look "smeared"; some days worse than others; resolution is correct at...

Well in monitor you can do one thing - disconnect the monitor cable*(VGA Cable) from the tower and chk still if u have the same faint screen that means monitor gone bad if not than uninstall the Grapics Driver and shut down computer... if u have internet than restart and go to device manager ( Run - devmgmt.msc) under display adapter right click on grapics name and update driver.

Blurry resolution and screen smear until it has been running for several minutes

Check the video card first, if you have another vidoe card try it. If that does not shore up the problem the monitor would be a issue, and now a day monitors are dirt cheap even for the LCD monitors so I would look into buying on of those if your inclined to do so.

Smeared image

Try removing signal cable and refitting at both ends.
Signal cable also could be faulty.

LACie 319 LCD 'smuge'

Sounds like an inverter problem. If the power supply is internal replace the capacitors coming out of the voltage regulators. These are usually 1000mf and/or 470mf. If that doesn't do the trick look up the numbers on the 8-pin chips that drive the secondary transformers on the inverter to see if they are getting the right voltages.
Good Luck!
