Hitachi external hard driver can not connect to my notebook. Need its driver ­for XP or windo­­w 7.

I have had the same problem with Vista and win 7 with USB connection. Using it with XP its perfect. what operating system are you using?

It is a "plug-and-play" device, and Windows XP/Vista/7 are "plug-and-play-aware" systems.
So, just connect it, and Windows should recognize it.

Windows 2000 & XP & Vista & 7 _include_ the necessary device-drivers for HDD devices.

First make sure usb cable connected to harddrive is working fine.
try it in different usb ports.
Press windows key +R key so you can see run then type in run "devmgmt.msc" then press ok so you can see device manager uninstall all usb drivers then it automatic install usb drivers.
then check.
Also you need to change registry for that type in run "regedit" then press ok then you can see registry editor then locate below key.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11­CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
And remove upper filter and lower filter.Then restart computer then check.
If your harddrive still not recognized then you need to repair your harddrive.Try your harddrive in different computer if it is not recognized on another computer then your harddrive has internal issue.

Can you provide me the details of the laptop. Also; are to trying to install Windows XP OS on your notebook.

If you are trying to install Windows XP on your notebook; then we need to disable the SATA on the notebook by using the external USB based floppy drive or using the nlite application burning the XP OS disc with a set of SATA drivers to install and recognize the hard drive.

it may because of your windows XP is not installed properly.....or your MIC have some damage.Try to reinstall it again....or you might need some driver for your MIC.....are you using the embedded MIC or external MIC....?

XP install is not detecting any hard disk.
No jumpers are required for laptops, can only have one hard drive in a laptop.
Check the BIOS for the hard disk configuration, make sure that it is set on Auto (detect).
You may have a faulty hard disk, you can check it by booting up with a floppy DOS boot disk, run fdisk to see if it detects the hard disk, OR connect this hard drive to a USB hard disk adapter and connect it to a working computer's USB port and if it detects it as an external drive the it is OK.

You may need to research the site for Your model number of notebook, but many use the same sound drivers

you dont need drivers for hds in windows XP if the operative system is already installed and you are trying to connect an external HD via USB... if this is your case you dont need drivers...you probably have another problem in your OS... And if there is a driver problem and the disk is HITACHI, just go to manufacturers website and thats all... good luck
