Yamaha Portable Generator EF 1000 iS won't start.
Last time I ran the generator (several months ago) I let it run until it was out of gas.
Yesterday I filled the tank and started the generator. It started right away and ran fine. I only ran it for 2 or 3 minutes and then shut it off. I noticed that gas was dripping out of the clear plastic "overflow tube(?). I waited about an hour and then tried to start it. It wouldn't start, it wouldn't fire at all. I noticed more gas coming out of the clear plastic tube. Today I tried to start it again but to no avail. More gas came out of the clear plastic tube.
Any suggestions?

Try cleaning the carb out,(hog wash carb cleaner I use) the float may be stuck or the needle & seat.You may need a rebuild kit for the carb,about 12 bucks.hope this helps

Take it to a dealer, there is a solid state module inside that controls the charging and idle, also a wiring diagrams are available with owners manual, go to Yamaha web site also..
Interesting. They haven't used generators in over 50 yrs. But yes that was the warning light for the generator. If you have a volt meter that would tell you what the system is doing. If the engine will not crank, and the battery is fully charged, you would need to check the connections at the starter for voltage and ground. And the red warning lights would normally come on until the engine starts.
you need to take the carburator off and clean it as well as the fuel tank,to start,maybe even a spark plug as well.always use a gas stable additive when you store it,better yet try to get in the habbit of running it once a month
When you pull the bowl off of your carb is it clean? If not you have some contamination possibly inside. You might want to remove the carb and blow compressed air through all the vents a ports.
