HP Ipaq 4700 stylus problem

Hi, My Ipaq 4700's stylus is only recognised by the screen, when the message inbox button is also being pressed.

I have tried both soft & hard resets & via the HP helpline have updated the software, all to no effect.

All othe functions seem to be working OK.

Any ideas?

SOURCE: No longer recognises stylus imput

Ok I fixed mine! Nothing too exotic or technical - I cleaned the screen! Used a spray of notebook screen cleaner and gently rubbed (which helped) then took a sheet of paper and cleaned in around the edge of the screen, which seemed to fix it completely. The paper came out a bit grubby, so I guess there is a problem if you get dirt between the screen and the casing. Mine is a s/h reconditioned unit, and probably a couple of years old, so this may have been an accumulation over that time. Anyway it now works fine after a month of thinking I would have to bin it (as I haven't been able to find anybody remotely interested in taking it into a workshop on the continent!

SOURCE: iPAQ 4700 hard resetting on its own.

I also own an ipaq 4700 and experienced the same problem. Even after reloading the OS I continued to have this problem. I did buy it refurbished but I fear this may be a common hardware problem. From my research it would appear the battery is the most likely culprit, I have not tried replacing mine but it may be worth a shot, if nothing else you have an extra battery which means less time at the charger :D

Hp rx4540.How to access the Boot loader mode?? .My ipaq just displays the hp logo on start up and then just freezes.Ive tried soft and hard reset.Help please

A factory reset erases all user-installed settings, programs, and data, and restores your HP iPAQ to factory settings.
CAUTION All user-installed settings, programs, and data are erased from memory with a factory reset.
To perform a factory reset and return your HP iPAQ to factory settings:
  1. Press and hold the OK and Rotate Screen buttons.
  2. While holding these buttons, use the stylus to lightly press the Reset button on the HP iPAQ until the device restarts.
  3. When the HP iPAQ restarts, release all of the buttons, and then remove the stylus from the Reset button.
The HP iPAQ will now restart and power on.

If you have done the above and still no go. Then your main drive has probably failed.

Hx4700 wont work after failed update on ROM v1.10

Try hard reset: pressing and holding the calendar and iTask buttons and doing a soft reset for 2 seconds.

Hard resetting a WM 5 HX 4700 is to press and hold the Contacts and Mail buttons and then doing a soft reset. The boot screen will popup with a message “To perform a clean reset, which will clear all data in memory, press the [Calendar] button”

If that fails, try upgrading to wm 6 or wm 6.1 then downgrading afterwards.

I've upgraded from wm2003SE to wm6.1 alkor rc2.2 rom.

IPAQ 2795 freezes during boot up.

I had the same problem. Contacted HP customer service chat, and got the following answer that
solved the problem:
1. Remove the battery for 30 minutes.
2. Insert it again in the iPAQ.
3. Perform a clean reset on the iPAQ and at the same time charge the iPAQ.
To perform a clean reset please follow these steps:
Press and hold the Calendar button, the Power button, and the Messaging button.
While holding these buttons, use the stylus to lightly press the Reset button on the bottom of the HP iPAQ.

The problem can also be solved by getting a new battery, and performing the clean reset while charging (using the portable charger, not the cradle).
