I have a television that did this. The picture went out but it continued to have sound. It was the projector bulb. I ordered from a dealer on ebay, very resonably priced. It came with instructions on how to install it and was a very easy fix.
Firstly check for loose connections between the video source and tv e.g dvd player/set top box
If still no picture it could be that the lcd panel inside the tv has a faulty connection for this you will need a technician to come out and make the repair this sounds more expensive than it usually is and is not a major cause for alarm.
Ur LCD inverter board is dead.Replaced this LCD inverter board will get ur picture back.Tries websites Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com to buy a refurbish LCD inverter board for the replacement. The board is a long shape board.
LCD's use a colorful crystal see through display which only visible when light is shining through it. if you have sound and no picture it's always a faulty PSU. Very easy to change out actually.
I had the same issue happen to my vizio lcd just this weekend. Everyone is telling me is a bulb or backlight or something. It would explain the loud pop and no picture, but I'm not getting sound either so I'm not sure what exactly happened. Only after about 2 years too. I'm trying to find parts to just fix it myself.
