I recently installed a GE Simon XT wireless security system. It worked fine upon initial installation. However, I decided to relocate the panel. At the new location I had to extend the transformer lead to be able to reach the nearest outlet. Now when I press the arm buttons or status button the voice announces sensor status followed by, "ac power failure." The system operates fine on battery power alone, but I need help in resolving the ac problem. I used the extra 6' power line provided by Safemart to extend the transformer lead. Many thanks in advance.

Check the outlet to ensure it :1- has power , 2- is not a switched outlet. Check your wire connections to ensure they are secure. If all of the above are good, the transformer may have shorted when disconnecting. Use a voltage meter on the transformer terminals and the AC scale, check the output of the transformer.

SOURCE: Simon 3 "System Low Battery" after 3 years use

I install these panels.  For the low battery message to clear you need to power the system down completely.  To do this you need to unplug the battery and also unplug the transformer plugged into an electrical outlet.  When you power the system back up, you need to first plug in the battery leads.  Then the transformer.

SOURCE: GE Simon XT panel lights window, door and motion indicators

The system is working as designed. If you arm both doors/windows and motions, but you DON'T exit the premises during the exit delay, the system will "downgrade" its arming to doors/windows only. The assumption is that you haven't actually left the premises and are at risk of creating fale alarms. This behavior can be disabled in System Configuration (though it may require the dealer access code to do it).

Try opening and closing a sensored external door (even if you don't go outside) during the delay after arming doors+motion and see if the motions don't stay active.

SOURCE: GE Simon 3 low battery warning: Newer battery has 6.54V?

Read the battery voltage with the system on but with the ac power disconnected. I always suspect the battery from experience. Battery needs to be replaced every few years normally(but can vary).

System says low battery ... how do I open it to replace batteries...very confusing!

There are two tabs (and possibly a screw) on the top of the Simon XT panel. Remove srew (if installed) and press the two tabs, pulling forward. Front part of panel is hinged and will rock forward. Battery is located behind front half. It is a 6 volt 1.2 Amp Hour lead acid battery.
You must completely downpower the Simon XT (wall plug in and battery) then replace with new battery first, then reconnect wall power. Close the front panel and snap it closedand replace the screw (if it was installed). You will need to set the time on the panel, following the instructions in the users manual.
