I need a manual for my samsung focus. - Samsung Wave S8500 Smartphone

Focusing is one of the most difficult parts for every digital camera. Special on the end of the moon, and if the lights are low. Every camera needs sharp contrasting backgrounds and no distracting other high contrast objects in the foreground.
Be aware when you soon in to the end of the zoom range, you can't focus on close objects. Minimum focus distance can be a few meters.

It will not correct for convergence problems and almost never needs to be adjusted---what is issue with the set?

You are seeing grid like lines because the camera is in the multi auto-focus mode.You can select it to Center auto-focus mode by selecting the Focus Area option from the left of the screen and changing it to Center AF.If you need further clarification please have this detailed user manual from the following link. {Refer page number 44}. Sounds like the infrared circuit is bad. In that case, it will need repair. Only other alternative is to try manual focus in the meanwhile.

There is a manual focus adjustment above and between the red and green gun, located in the front of the TV behind the panel; It is a small black box about 3X3" . This has all three adjustments .

As ima_rm2000 noted, the HLN is manual focus.  There is a focus ring at the base of the lens assembly.  Here is PDF of the focus assembly.  You have to remove the back of the set to access this, and tape/tie the lamp door switch closed so the TV will power up so you can focus it.

try going to the antenna input from the menu screen, then trying to do the auto focus, or manual focus. My Samsung won't let me do the auto focus unless I'm looking at the antenna for some strang reason.

If your unit has a switch for manual focus, put it in manual. If you cannot focus the unit in manual you have a problem with the lense and it will need repaired and/or replaced. If you do not have manual focus you will not be able to troubleshoot the unit. It could be a lense problem as stated before or a problem with the Auto Focus system, perhaps just out of adjustment, or something more serious. Either way if you are not capable of camcorder repair you will have to seek the help of a reputable repair shop. Good luck.
