Hi jeeplover4vr,

Please press and hold the F2 Key while restarting the Computer to access the BIOS Utility Windows/BIOS settings. Please make sure that you press and hold the F2 Key at the Sony VAIO Logo screen while restarting the Computer to access the BIOS window. You may need to press the F10 Key to Save the changes made, F9 to restore the default values or Esc to exit the BIOS.

Hope this helps.

SOURCE: Where is the best place to get a new hard drive

You're on the right track--it doesn't need to be custom-manufactured for Sony notebooks--just needs to be an internal mobile IDE-PATA hard drive. Still, I would recommend at least looking for something name brand with a decent warranty. Amazon and Newegg.com both have the Western Digital WD2500BEVE (250GB) for $79.99. That's a decent price (not mind-boggling), but more importantly it's a solid size/price reference point--e.g., if you find a 500GB name-brand hard drive for the same price, pull the trigger immediately.

How easy is it to replace a palmrest on a Sony Vaio VGN NW series laptop?

The Sony laptops can be quite tricky to work on, I would suggest having someone that is trained replace it because there is a good chance of breaking something while stripping the unit down.

Need to copy of recovery discs with operating system for the vgnnw240f

Recovery disk can be save as system back up files and then reinstalling it again. Try to ask your friend to give you system back up files(same operating system) which can be save using external Hard drive or USB flash disk and install this back up to your computer to work again or if your computer is not working try to boot your computer in CDROM and use the back file to restore your system.

Sony VAIO VGN-FJ3M/W does not boot.

Possible hard disk failure or hard disk controller failure.
if you feel confident remove the hard disk and replace - obviosuly make sure that there is not power running and remove the battery - replace hard disk then battery then power and try again.

Do you get any beeps? is the hard disk clicking? listen carefully to it and post your findings.

Replacing Hard Drive in a Sony VAIO SZ330P/B

Turn your Vaio upside down and look for an easy access panel or release lever to remove the hard drive carriage. You will probably need a small Philip's screw driver to remove the carriage, but I don't think you need to remove the keyboard.

Laptop

it could be that
  • you got a virus that corrupted your hard disk or MBR (Master Boot Record)
  • your hard drive is dead
  • or your hard drive is corrupted
Try booting from a system disk (Windows XP CD, recovery CD or system floppy) and let me know what happens.
