The D80 does not have the LiveView feature to allow using the LCD monitor for taking the picture. Nikon introduced this feature with the D3 and D300, which came out well after the D80. You have to use the viewfinder.

Sorry if this wasn't the answer you wanted to see, but that's just the way this camera works.

My LCD monitor won't light up to take a picture but it does when I review those I have taken thru the viewfinder

Most screens can be turned off for low battery usage. Check battery with tester or have it tested or replace battery and check menu and see if review screen is turned off. Rich

Nikon digital SLR LCD viewfinder

No. The D60's LCD is used for menus, shooting settings, and reviewing pictures after you take them. You have to use the viewfinder to compose your pictures. Nikon introduced the LiveView capability into their DSLRs with the D3 and the D300, introduced after the D60.

The Nikon D5000 must be set in "Live View" mode before you can use the rear monitor to take photos. There is a button that says "LV" to the right of the LCD screen that sets Live View to on or off.

Can I use the LCD monitor (rather than the viewfinder) when taking pictures ? If so, how do I set the camera to do this?

No, you can't. Nikon didn't introduce the "LiveView" capability in their dSLRs until the D3 and D300. The older D40x requires you to use the viewfinder.

Hi,

The picture board on your monitor is bad, since the lines are causing visual display, it means the picture board of your monitor has developed fault.

The best thing for you to do now is to take the monitor to a local repairer within your vicinity to help with the replacement of the picture board because the fault is not something you can fix yourself. in other not to complicate issues.

Monitor does not stay on

The LCD monitor screen at the back of the camera does not display a live picture like many point-n-shoot digitals. It only displays after the pic is taken. Use the LCD on the top cover to check your settings. Please leave feedback if this helps.

Canon EDS 30D Viewfinder Off during Picture Taking Works to Display Picture Taken How do I turn back on?

The EOS 30D does not have "live view". (Most SLR digital cameras made before 2007 do not.) By definition, an SLR (single lens reflex) camera looks through the same lens with the viewfinder as it uses when taking the picture.

So there is no way to see the picture on the LCD before the picture is taken, like you can with compact digital cameras. You compose the picture through the optical viewfinder, then shoot.

LCD Monitor on ,and the Electronic Viewfinder turned off

If you turn on the back LCD, the electronic viewfinder will remain on while in a shooting mode. There is no setting on the camera to use only the back LCD monitor while shooting. If you playback images in the Play mode, only the LCD monitor will turn on. However, if you press the Monitor button while in the Play mode, than the back LCD monitor will turn off. The image will display only in the viewfinder LCD.

Viewfinder

Since the viewfinder sees the subject different than the picture taking lens, we recommend using the LCD monitor screen for taking macro pictures. The image previewed on the LCD monitor will be the exact image that is taken.
