When starting the computer the screen stays black. Only the green light is on. It gives short the bios start up screen, after that it's only blach.

I would replace the monitor because it is 8 years old and prices have dropped considerably.

ran for 2 days on AC pack only?
battery out, be clear there... it must run on ac alone .

is the screen with text?" or really is 100% black all the time.
remove the hdd if it makes abnormal noise, and check that BIOS screens work , even take out the DVD drive.
battery is already out. they short. get it out .
then push the bios keys, ESC?
this PC laptop has CCFL lamps that go dead.
so do the flash light trick first. while calling up BIOS.

Turn on the computer while tapping F8, this will take you into the Safe Mode.
While your in the Safe Mode you can do a system restore.
Restore your computer back to an earlier time when it was working before you installed the bios change.
Left click on Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore.
This should solve your problem.

Try performing power drain steps on thenotebook:

1) Remove the AC adapter and battery from the notebook.
2) Press the power button and hold it for a minute.
3) Reconnect the AC adapter, battery and try starting the computer.
Even if the issue is same then perform Hard drive self test from BIOS.

1. Turn on the notebook and press F10 immediately. Which will lead you to the BIOS setup screen.

2. Click on Diagnisis and choose hard drive self test. Perform both the short test and long test.
