my HP media center m7160 will not turn on. Green light on the back blinks slowly with no power source and when the plug is connected the light blinks faster. I tried with no power source holding the power button on for 15 - 20 seconds and then plugging the cord in and trying to turn PC on but no results from that.my HP media center m7160 will not turn on. Hi friends, unpluug the power chord from the wall jack after that press and hold the power button in the front for about 15 seconds, connect the chord back in and try it. if it does the same then look at the rear side of the cpu box (where the power chord goes in and look for a small fan inside the power supply box, it has to be spinning). if not then the power supply (smps) has goen bad. now if the fan is sipnning try disconnecting all the extra periferals eg printer and stuff, still nogo then try opening the cpu box (reffer owners manual). take the RAM out and try to power up the system, if it starts beeping like beep ...beep... peeeep... then turn it off put the ram sticks back in and it should work fine...

the green light on the power supply but it dosnt relay to the mother board, the first item I would nbe concerned with is that the power supply that is,unplug your computer open up the access panel on the tower, the largest plug from the power supply, going to the motherboard unplug it . the plug has a release on it pinch inward and pull up at the sametime this will relaese it, now plug in your computer to the wall power and if your power supply has a switch on it turn it on,also make sure the 240 110 volt switch it's a slide switch on the power supply is on 110 volts if your not in europeits 110 here in the usa, if the light fails to blink or even turn on its the fuse in the power supply,if the light comes on blinking the power supply needs more attention if the light stays on full the problem lyes beyond the power supplyI would guess the fuse is the problem, now youll find two of them within the case of the power supply hope this helps.
try removing all power cables of your computer that are connected to the surge protector. reset the surge protector. wait for about 5 minuets before you turn on the surge protector. then plug all cables that your remove from your computer the turn on the computer.
Try replacing the power supply, a blinking green light usually means the power supply is missing an output voltage. If you do that and you still get a blinking green light then the motherboard will need to be replaced.
this issue has been taken up on this forum, with a plethora of solutions. This is a power issue. Easiest solution, unplug the computer, wait 5 minutes, plug it back in, wait 2 minutes, then turn it on. That will fix your problem 90% of the time. If not, here is a bunch of solutions:
Remove your main power cable on the back of your PC. Let it sit idle for an hour and then try and power it up again. The memory in the BIOS should clear up and power back on.
If the component with the blinking green light is on your network card, it has nothing to do with your problem, but does demonstrate that *********** board is NOT fried or there would be no voltage available to make the light blink.
Something on your board may be fried, but not the entire board.
Unit needs board level service, so obtain an RMA, if available and submit the unit for bench testing and service.
