I found one in my desk at work. It's missing a memory card thus no one is using it. What kind does it take? Can it be by any brand?

It can take a SD memory card or SDHC memory card, recommended brands: SanDisk, Toshiba and Panasonic from 128 MB to 4 GB capacities.

The manual and other information for the Coolpix L18 is available from Nikon: http://www.nikonusa.com/Nikon-Products/Product-Archive/Digital-Camera/25596/COOLPIX-L18.html . The list of memory cards is on page 91.

I hope this helps.

The L16 can use both standard SD and SDHC cards, and even micro-sd cards IF you use with an adapter. All are relatively inexpensive these days on Amazon (best bang for your buck these days would be a 4GB card). You might also consider purchasing a card reader so that you can download your photos from your camera to your computer. Have fun with your new camera!

Here is a PDF manual for this camera.

http://www.google.ca/webhp?hl=en#hl=en&source=hp&biw=1383&bih=834&q=Nikon+COOLPIX+L18+PDF+manual&aq=f&aqi=g-v1&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=&fp=6a0673dc5c3f3912

Copy past to browser window.

Camera uses an SD card and I'd suggest a 2GB card as it might not have the Firmware to support anything larger. Read the instructions on the card as it may be locked and you will need to format the card to the camera. Formatting is important to ensure the camera and memory card are compatible and work between each other without issues or errors. Formatting should be done after pictures are downloaded to the computer HD

The Nikon L18 uses SD and SDHC cards. I'd go with one of the major brands, but it doesn't really matter. Neither does the speed, unless you intend to use it primarily for video (which I wouldn't).

What kind of memory card do I use

You may use any SD card up to 2GB in size (4GB if you can find any). Make sure you get an SD card and not an SDHC card, as the latter are electronically incompatible and will not work. The brand and speed won't make much difference, though a faster card may download faster to your computer if you use a compatible card reader. I'd also stick with the major brands, such as SanDisk, PNY, and Lexar.

I have been using canon A 580 camera since almost 3 years, but suddenly I found that my flash light is not working, I have changed the memory card and batteries several times but still no progress. Kindly...

Many Canon cameras use some of the screws in the camera case to serve as a means of detecting if the case is open (and thus disables the flash to prevent shock). Examine all the screws around the perimeter of your case. Are they all there and tight? If not, tighten loose screws and try moving and replacing any missing screws with one of the others that are still there.
If the screws aren't the problem, then the flash unit has likely burned out. This is not an easy fix, or inexpensive repair (even if you do it yourself). Remember though that the camera will still work for pics not requiring flash (you may need to switch out of Auto mode).

Have brand new PNY OPTIMA SD HC 8gb Have a HP camera Photosmart R927 Camera reads card is locked. How do I unlock the card?

Hello

OK, if the memory card itself is locked, you might sometimes get this error code. All you need to do is to take out the memory card and switch the lever on the left side to the unlock.

6c99e31.jpg

If the error is still displayed after you did the above, you might want to try the card in another camera.

If the card works in another camera . the problem is with your card reader in your camera.

If you open you sd slot and look inside with a sharp light , you should be able to see on the left side of the slot there is a little copper or spring steel lever switch. This switch work as follows:

1. When no card is inserted / no write protection , the switch is open and thus the protection is off.
2. When locked card is inserted , the tab is depressed and tells the camera that the card is lock.

Contrary to popular belief ,the little tab on the sd card is not an electronic switch and does not physically influence the card operation itself. If you put a locked card into a camera without a sd lock switch , you would still be able to use the card normally.

It is incredible difficult to fix this switch because of space limitations in the sd card. Look into the sd slot and if you can see the switch , use a needle to pull the little tab down toward the base of the camera by about 2mm or until it works being careful not to bend it.

If this does not resolve your problem , there might be a short in the switch circuit and the camera will need to be disassembled to resolve this error. This should cost no more than $50.

Please feel free to contact me if you need further information

Kind regards
Andrea

What kind of memory card should I use in my MX 1063 Kodak?

The M1063 uses SD and SDHC cards.

There are two main schools of thought on memory card size. One says get the biggest card you can afford so you can take as many pictures as possible without interruption. The other says get two or more smaller cards and switch among them so that if one card goes bad (or gets lost, or stepped upon, or...) you don't lose all your pictures.

As to brand, any of the major brands will work fine. With this camera you don't need to pay a premium for higher speed cards.

I put a brand new SanDisk SDHC 4 GB memory card in and it says "memory card error; card is locked".

I also own an A620, but unfortunately I also learned the hard way that SDHC cards are not compatible with this camera. The A620 was designed before the newer SDHC format came out, thus although they look exactly the same, your camera will never work with these cards. Your camera uses standard SD cards (2GB or less). There are some standard 4GB SD cards, but they are very rare these days, and costly.

My computer won't recognize my phones memory card!

Well I found that these older card readers will not read the 4g sdhc format. In your case you found a 4 gig card that can be read (your sisters) Bring your's back to the store and get an exchange for the brand your sister has, let them know this. The knowledge for them is good. They most alway accomadate just to keep the customer happy.

Memory card not ready

are you getting a format error? the card (if new) should be "ready" already. also you may want to verify in your owners manual that the phone can handle a 4 gig card.

Just bought a 16 gb memory card for my panasonic lumix tz5- when i inserted it , it says memory card parameter error- this camera is supposed to be able to take a 16 gb memory card, but it wont. works...

Try formatting the card.

As I am not familiar with the Panasonic cameras, nor did you say what card type you were using, I cannot give specifics on what to format it to (if using a computer) or how to do it through the camera, which may have an error and not recognize the card due to a lack of proper formatting, and thus may not allow you to access the card at all, even to format, or if your camera is able to format the card at all.

Specifying what brand and model of card you are using would help.

Missing pictures

Hey flowernthe,
The error message “card cannot be read" means there was and error when the camera tried to access the memory card. To fix this you should make sure you are using the right kind of memory card, which for this kind of camera is a SD card, and it does not support SDHc cards. Since this camera uses SD cards I would make sure the slider on the side of the card is not set to the locked position. If this doesn't help I would make sure the memory card connecters are clean, and if they're not you can use a rubber eraser to clean them up. I hope this helps!

Sincerely,
Allan
