I have seen this so many times I thought I would post an answer on this so you can repair your Brother MFC series machine that says printing and will not function. Using this procedure will save you from having to call out a service technician. Any time your machine says "printing" and will not do anything simply turn off the power. Now hold down the red clear/stop button WHILE turning the power back on. Continue holding the clear key for a few seconds then release. Your "printing" message should be gone and your machine should be back at the ready screen. Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya!

You might try a better/faster internet connection or a faster computer to run it off of. VOIP phones have troubles handling faxes for this very reason.
This is an easy one. With the power on, open the front door, where you installed the drum. Press the CLEAR button. The display will ask something like, "Change Drum? Press 1 for yes. Press 2 for no." Press 1. Close the front door.
look on the bottom of your drum unit. there is a sensor opening that might have a tiny piece of paper in it, not allowing the sensor flag to reset. if thats not it, closely inspect behind rear door.
The machine clicks when you plug in the power is the gear porblem, most likely the gear is broken.
the one that does not pickup paper is the roller.
you can change the roller form the licker to this one.
If there is noise on phone line machine reduces speed to enable fax to be sent. Have line check or try machine on different phone line to ensure it is a phone line problem.
If you open the cover and remove the toner/drum unit, you will see (on the left side as you remove) a small hole with two triangle teeth. on either side of this hole are two small phillips head screws. this is the problem we had with our clicking noise. As the machine tries to turn the toner/drum, the innards of the toner are becoming harder to turn. So the part of the fax machine that fits in the hole end up stripping the teeth in that hole. If you have an old toner cartridge, you can remove the gearing from it (where the small phillips head screws are) and use it to replace the gearing on the newer cartridge. Or go buy a new toner cartridge.
