The sound is in mono and not stereo. How do I change this?

Stereo is actually two identical amplifiers which when the left and right of a stereo signal is fed into the respective inputs will reproduce the stereo sound through the left and right speakers.
Mostly there is a mono/stereo switch so if only a mono signal is available it is reproduced through both speakers.

You don't make it clear whether the playback is in mono or half a stereo?

If playback is in mono it will emerge from both speakers but the directional element will be absent. If the playback is in half a stereo the sound will emerge from one speaker only or mostly one speaker.

Most common problem is the failure of one of the amplifiers which could be electronic or the failure of any of the various switching usually used in such things.
The amplifiers can be tested by injecting a signal into each amplifier input and will be found satisfactory if the sound emerges from each speaker in turn at a similar volume.

there could be a few issues. It could be the speakers themselves. I believe this tv has an audio out. I would hook it up to a stereo and see if it that improves it. It could also be something internal like the amplifier. You have a couple options but I would just use a stereo for sound. If you still need more assistance let me know. your radio is either MONO, depending on age, or it is STEREO , poor sound is more than likely due to the speaker/s condition , the radio broadcasts are usually in stereo now so maybe you've not got the radio set up for the best sound etc , what is the make of the radio and age

It does not mean much---sound may still be stereo but channel change often does not allow it to show.

With it on a channel listen carefully and switch it if possible from mono to stereo to see if hear mono or not.

Maybe an FM amplified indoor antenna could help you to get a stable FM signal.

Press the MTS on the remote control handset to select STEREO, MONO or SAP. All the options will be available only when the current TV channel is broadcasting that option. Channels will not always carry programes, that have all MTS options. If "STEREO" appears on the screen when you select a channel means stereo sound is available with current programme. You can hear sound from both speakers. If broadcast is not strong and clear, stereo sound will not be available. Press "MTS" button to change it to "Mono". This will eliminate the noise. If "MONO" appears on the screen when you select a channel, stereo effect will not be availabe, even though you have set it to stereo. If "SAP" appears when you select a channel 'Second Audio Programe' [SAP] broadcasting is available for that programme. Press the "MTS" button to 'SAP' and you can hear that programe in different language or some other kind of audio.

to eliminate the problem just select the mono sound disable the stereo signal.so that your tv sound will be stable.this happens because not all tv stations are broadcasting on stereo signal thats why your tv keep on switching to mono and stereo base on what signal it receives.plus the signal being feed by the cable provider sometimes they are not stable enough to give the stereo signal so better select only the mono sound...tnx hope i helped you..

Well the default is to obtain the channels signal. most channels over the world their audio output signal is mono. Rare tvs have the ability to save indivisual channel to their memmoty. Read the tv prospectus!!!
