I have been having problems with my chainsaw dying after a few cutts and then not starting again until the next day. Spark is good. Now I cant even start it and after primming it I pulled the plug to find that it was wet with gas. Is the carb. causing flooding? Any advice would be appreciated.

Remove the spark plug, pull the throttle wide open, and pull the starter through smartly several times to expel the raw fuel. Recheck the spark at the plug--it should be blue and snappy with a fresh plug gapped at 0.020". If weak looking, the ignition module pole gap may need to be reset. Remove the left side cover to expose the flywheel and ignition module. Turn the flywheel until the magnets are under the module, insert a thin business card into the pole gaps, loosen the module screws to allow the module to contact the magnets. Tighten the screws, then rotate the flywheel somewhat to remove the card. Turn the flywheel one full turn to make sure the pole gaps don't close any further. Recheck for spark. Check the fuel filter, air cleaner, and muffler for plugging. Check the fuel lines for decay or other problems. If you are still having problems, go to: www.drystacked.com for a 12 page article on Walbro brand carburetor theory and troubleshooting. Pay particular attention to the placement of the lower chamber gasket--if on the wrong side of the diaphragm, the fuel control will be incorrect. Hope some of this helps!

My brother used to sell chainsaws to fire departments. His rule was always do two things first: 1) Get new gas -- it doesn't matter how old you think your gas is. 2) Replace the spark plug -- again, it doesn't matter how new you think it is. He says that this solves 90% of all starting problems.

Hi, from what you have written I believe you have a faulty cdi unit. Carbys don't generally run perfectly intermittently. To test the cdi theory, close the sparkplug gap to approximately half normal gap. If the saw runs fine you have a faulty cdi, shorting ht lead or stop wire. Regards Phil.

If it still has a good spark it must be a fuel issue, replace the filter in the fuel tank check the fuel hose up to the carb for cracks or splits, if this does not help the next step is to service the carb, let me know if you need help with this.

Hi and welcome to FixYa!
If there's oil on the sides of the engine valve cover then the valve cover gasket should be replaced. If there's oil on the spark plugs then the enginve valve seals must be replaced. Worn out valve seals can make the oil get in the plugs.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

Good morning! My 1990 Toyota Corolla 2 Door Sedan has been fine until the past 3 days. The car starts fine then several minutes after driving the car will die. I pull over on the side of the road, put it...

this may be a few things, the most common is a bad ignition coil, this looses spark and car dies, then after cranking a few times it will start to work again, the problem can also be a fuelpump doing the same thing, the best thing would be to check for spark when it dies but you would need someone to spin the engine while you were to see if the sparkplug wire was sparking, another common thing is the distributor itself or the cap, see this can go on and on without a good diagnoses you can throw parts at this car all day, it would be cheaper to have someone test it, they would need to drive it until it stalled and then do some quick testing before it started and this may take a few days because you said after a few times it will run fine,
