One possibility is the unit is thermally protected.
Does the TV have a built in fan? Check that all the vents are clear and the TV can "breathe".

Another is a bad solder joint on the inverter bard or power supply, heating can cause the connection to open and the TV to stop working.

It sounds like the CRT may have a intermittent short in it. Many times the impurities or oxidation occurs and these impurities are conductive. When the set is first turned on it shows the flaw and as the CRT warms up the impurities react to the heat and the short is removed until the set is turned off and cools down. The only cure would be to replace the CRT. Do to the cost of doing this I would just use the set until it ceases to go to a normal picture.

if you bang on the TV or try kicking the very center bottom of the tv and it works or flickers you got a loose solder connection somewhere on the board. I got the same problem. When it warms up the solder, around what ever pin it might be, makes better contact. I am looking into the problem and will post my finding when i figure it out.

Picture won't come in clear until TV "warms up" for 15 minutes or more

Change the capacitors first per the instructions in the link below. Symptoms could be anything from high-pitched hum to no picture at all. On these defective models, I would start at the caps and work back. It won't hurt to replace them anyway.
