The water is no longer going down the drain at the back of the salad bins. I've tried straw, electrical flex but they hit an obstruction at a depth not far short of the drainage tray. What could I try? thanks Gordon

Greetings,
its most likely ice...take a squeeze bottle or tubing and force water into drain opening. I use a 1/4inch tube and blow into it and then **** some water out and continue this until open...

to be politically correct...I use a 1/4 inch tube and pour hot water into the drain and then put the tube into the drain and blow water into the opening and then siphon the water back out into a cup or bowl. this removes the cold water while adding hot water after removeing cold water...this forces the hot water to melt the ice pretty fast....

Hotpoint RFA 60 Refrigerator drain problem

Well the only way to check it out completely is like you said going from inside your freezer and I like to pour water down the line to make sure it drains.

Take the back panel off inside your freezer and locate the opening of the drain. You will see the collection tray just under your coils and in the middle you will see the opening. Now if it is blocked by ice just take a couple tea spoons of table salt and pour on the opening. Ice will melt very fast and then the opening will clear and then take some water and pour down it.

If the opening is clear just pour water down and observe the drain pan under the unit and see if it comes in there.

Fridge smells

The drain leads to a pan under the fridge that sits on coils and evaporates the condensate that drained out. you should be able to access the pan and remove it and clean. or you can just wait for it to evaporate and go away. (better off to clean) some warm water in a baster will help rinse out the line. Let me know if that worked or if you need help accessing the pan.

Cold Freezer Hot refrigerator

I'm having the same problem with a Haier Model HTE18WAAWW.

Water is dripping into refrigerator section from the freezer section. Eventually, refrigerator section was not cooling adequately. Freezer was freezing, but there was eventually ice crystals inside similar to hoarfrost. (See Google images for hoarfrost if you're not sure what hoarfrost is.)

I turned off and unplugged unit for several hours while I removed the floor pan and internal back panel in the freezer. There was ice built up in the evaporator drain pan that was blocking the air flow of cold air from the evaporator into the refrigerator. I melted the ice with a hair drier plugged into a GFI outlet for safety.

I dried everything off. I could not find evidence of water going down the condensate drain tube below the evaporator to the condensate drain sitting on top of the compressor. I tried running a coat hanger down the drain line to no avail. I poured hot water down the condensate drain line to no avail. I put everything back together. Works fine as far as cooling and freezing, but water is still dripping into the refrigerator.

I think the defrosters are okay unless the heater strip below the evaporator is burned out. I base this on the fact that there is no condensate around the door gaskets even though the temperature in the house is hot and humid. I may have to Ohm that heater out. I'm thinking the drain line is clogged for the condensate drain. It may need longer defrosting.

If longer defrosting don't work, I'm thinking I need to rethink how to clean out the condensate drain line. Maybe low pressure compressed air???

Water beneath my salad bin

if the drain is truly not blocked then the water will go down it. try poking a piece of thin wire down it to check, and have a look on the outside at the back - some models have a tray or tank where this water collects that may be full - else the fridge drain should be plumbed into a drain - check from the outside too. Also check if the fridge is truly level. The feet allow you to adjust this and see - sometimes a small change in angle can spoil the drainage characteristics of these machines (possibly even lean it backwards a little if it looks like this might help). the only other possibility is if the fridge drain is fixed into another drain, that another appliance or fixture is causing back pressure - if so you would be able to see bubbling into your fridge if you sat and watched while someone else ran all the sinks/toilets/washers/dishwashers etc around the house - in theory though when all these other items are not running then the water should still drain.
