Re:toshiba 55h70 tv i unplugged the tv to paint. when i plugged back in a wk later i have no picture or sound. nothing. can't access the menu - completely dark screen. the red lite "on" button lights up, you can hear things on inside but no sound or picture. cable has been verified ok. all connections ok. any ideas?

Unplug set and or a box if used for a while and plug back to let units reboot.

Look in menu to see if speakers are switched on or off.

Look to see if a DVD etc connected to a rear input has sound or not.

First if a "new" set and if in warranty--have them deal with the problem.

If nothing on remote except on and off works--it is a micro problem (microprocessor) in the set.

I assume you did unplug the set---wait and plug it back as that could allow the micro to reset.

The key clue here is nothing on remote works except on/off?

Sounds like possibly cold solder connections on the convergence IC's I believe there are 3 in your tv. They are easy to spot big black IC's that have STK392-xxx stamped on them.. If your lucky you can solder the connections and be back in business. Sometimes because of the bad connections left unrepaired it will cause the ic's to fail then they would need replacing. If you have soldering skills you might try yourself. Be careful and make sure its unplugged. If you arent skilled at soldering I wouldnt recommend even trying it.

Unplug,replug the tv back about an hour later.Go into the tv menu,go to SOUND,go down to reset it to back to factory setting.The sound now should return,not,than ur tv the Tuner board have problems,call for warrenty serviced.

You probaly should be able to access the controls for that through the service menue. I dont have that info. However you can get a service manual for 10.99 at the following link, and if you purchase one they will mail it to you, unless you go back to the site and click on the contact them link and request that it be emailed to you. they also offer free support with the purchase of a manual so they can help you diagnose your set. check to make sure that the tv switch on the back panel for surround sound is not in the on position check the customer menu to make sure that the speakers are turned on
