this does not have the instructions to open the case.

It only say to add memory which is easily available via a small door on the back.

    :)

I only got the user manual here.. I already had it. It's useless to help me get into the case.

  • andrew_way Jan 06, 2011

This is a generic guess.. and really not a good one. I am a computer tech with 15 years experience and need instruction on this model.

That is not what I have.. mine is a Sony All In One DESKTOP...

How to replace hard drive in pcg 2f1l

Hello there,

This is a quite easy job if you are handy with a screwdriver and know some basics about software copying.

DONT FORGET YOU MUST MAKE A CLONE OF THE EXISTING HARD DRIVE FIRST !!!!!!
Software to do this is on free 'Minitool Partition Wizard Home edition' availble free here (USE DISK COPY WIZARD) http://download.cnet.com/Partition-Wizard-Home-Edition/3000-2094_4-10962200.html?part=dl-6285158&subj=dl&tag=button

This is imperative as the existing drive will contain the hidden partition containg the sony and windows software.
If you dont do this, you will be stuck with a vaio that you can only install microsoft windows on and NO SOny software PLUS you will LOSE all your existing data.

If you havn't got the manual, it is here.

This video will show you how to disaasemble and get the hard drive out. It is a simple SATA connected drive. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXQkjunisBk

How do I get to the hard drive in the sony pcg-2f2l?

Couldn't find instructions either, so I just went for it. Screws are on the back, about 15 or so of them, hidden under square rubber covers, as well as about 3 or 4 screws on the bottom, hidden under circular plastic covers. Once you have all the screws out, carefully separate the back cover (I did some very minor damage to mine with a flat head screw driver). The hard drive is then easily accessible inside.

How do you remove the hard drive from the pcg-6z4l Sony Vaio?

Remove the bottom cover. Make note where are each screw located because they're different.
After you removed the entire cover, you'll have access to the hard drive.
The screws you need to remove have an arrow mark.

The hard drive is under the keyword, in the middle of the laptop. Screw the left side of cover (power button) under the screen, pull it and later remove the keyword.
