There are a couple of things that you can try...
1. Setup on Monitor..: check on monitor menu, if the feature auto adj are enable,.try to Reset setting and resetting your display.
2. On windows(xp) desktop click Start > All programs > Startup... See for apps has executed for starting window. if you see "Adobe Gamma Loader" installed, maybe you haven't to saved your gamma/bright setting (it also happen when the first time installing adobe reader/photoshop, etc) you can resetting by "right" click on desktop > properties > click on Setting tab > click advance > Color management. after done, click apply then ok.
if The picture on monitor is upside, do resetting on monitor menu, > select V POSITION. (Vertical)
Hope this be of some help/idea. Pls post back should you need additional information.

In most of the cases like yours the problem is at the buttons at the lower of the screen. In case one of these buttons is pushed and locked in, all the buttons are blocked. First of all check that the buttons are mechanical working; push them one by one in order to feel the click of the button. In case of one (or more) are not clicking they have problem and has to be replaced. There is the possibility that the click is active although the button is defective; this is because the inner contact of the button is dirty or damaged. In this case you have to open the monitor's case (usually you have to remove the screws at the back of the monitor and open the cover slowly in order the clips all around the frame to get unlocked), spray with a contact cleaner direct at the buttons and push each one several times to get cleaned. By the way that the cover is open check the cables connecting the buttons board with the rest for possible cut or loose contact. VERY carefully plug the monitor and check the results. In case that the problem is still active one of the buttons is defective and needs replacement using soldering tools.
In case of a problem or clarification, don't hesitate to post me a reply before rejecting my answer.
If you are satisfied, accept my solution.
Thanks and regards

The Auto knob maybe mechanically stuck or the internal switch may be defective.
Try pressing the Auto switch firmly 10-15 times,If monitor works now the switch is defective and needs replacement.
Do rate the solution.
