SOURCE: VCR tape won't eject

The flap on the door stays open until the tape is ejected. There are two possible ways to remove the tape. First, with the power off, try to locate the drive pulley or gear on the side of the tape housing. It may be possible to turn it with your finger and cause the tape to eject. The eject mechanism will move VERY slowly when you use this technique.

The second way to do it should normally be done by an experienced technician, because it involves taking it even farther apart...and it may be difficult to reassemble. There are typically four screws that hold the tape mechanism in place...two near the top front and two near the back. It should be possible to remove those screws and pull the entire mechanism out of the VCR. Then you can more easily rotate the eject pulley (or gear) and remove the tape. If this sounds a little scary, I would definitely recommend placing the top back on and acting like nothing happened!

Shuts off when trying to play or record

This could be due to the VHS tape sticking on the tape reel, that triggers the overload and the shutdown. Try fast forwarding if possible.

Toshiba dvr670ku - vhs tape won't play, shuts recorder off

look to see if tape will fully load and if FF or REWIND work, if not a transport problem, drive mechanism not moving the tape, unit will sense this and shut unit off----even a problem in the loading mechanism for the VHS tape not loading the tape all the way will do the same thing.

Power goes off when a cassette is inserted. Tried cleaning heads but it won't even run that. When power is turned back on the cassette is immediately ejected.

Good day!!!

Most common problems
  • VCR refuses to FF or REW and shuts off.
  • VCR shuts off entering PLAY or REC or at random during PLAY or REC.
  • VCR eats tapes.
  • VCR doesn't accept tapes or ejects them without cause.
  • Sound is wavery, fluctuating, or muddy.
The cause for all of these is very often a bad idler tire or other dirty, worn, or tired rubber parts

Shuts down after 8 seconds of play.

Does the tape hang out when you eject the cassette?
8 seconds is about the time that the VCR brain allows the mechanism to run when there is a problem before shuting down. Just guessing from the model number, but I'd say the unit needs a belt job.

Some tapes will start and immediately shut down

the vcr is on threshold of belt life. try replacing (or cleaning with alcohol) the take-up reel belt. The vcr has a built-in time-out feature to protect the video tape. if it takes too long for things to happen, shut-down occurs.
