Re: I can't get the camera to accept a sd memory card. It...
Are you using a 4GB or higher "SDHC" card with your camera? Note that the S800 can only use "standard" SD cards (those 2GB or less). Fortunately, these are very inexpensive these days, recommend checking on Amazon.
For those that encounter this problem, there are several possible causes for "memory card locked", "memory card error", or "no memory card". The most common is trying to use a 4GB or higher SDHC card with an older camera made before SDHC format came out. Other causes include problems with the tiny slide switch on the side of the card, or the electrical contact switch internal to the camera. The problem may also arise from simple formatting problems if the card has never been formatted in the camera (note that this will also erase the card). Troubleshooting tips for this problem may be found at this link.

When your camera was made for SD cards (you did not help us here by entering a brand and model) it could be it won't accept the newer SDHC cards or the SDXC cards.
The SD cards were made up to 4 GB, but now even the 1 GB cards already are SDHC, because they are faster.
Again, when a device is made for SD cards and it did not get an software update, you most likely can't use SDHC cards and certainly no SDXC cards (above 32 GB)
And every card you put in your camera, first format the card in the camera, before using it.
Make sure your camera can take San Disk. It probably takes a certian card or the SD card might be upside down. Some brand and models stay this fault and the problem with the SD is that it does not accept a memory card higher
than 1GB. This info isn't in the user guide. Have you tried an external usb card reader?
Pull the card out and re-insert. the most likely problem is the card was not seated properly in the slot. Keep us updated.
I was checking to see if your camera had a limit to the size of SD memory card and couldn't find a thing so what I suspect is that the SD card lock has been engaged here is a diagram to show you how to unlock it.
Also any new memory card needs to be formatted in the camera before the camera can "read" it. After pictures have been loaded to the memory card and then downloaded to the computer the memory card needs to be formatted to clean the old pictures off and make the memory card ready to accept new pictures.
