My Toshiba mk4058gsx HDD is not detecting

The problem is that XPinstallation CD does not have a SATA driver, unless you have a SATA drive on adisk etc. and can install the driver when XP asks for a hard drive driver then,XP cannot detect the hard disk and therefore won't install XP.The FIX.Go into the BIOS anddisable the SATA drive (enable IDE emulation), this will make XP think it is aIDE/PATA hard disk. Then you can install XP normally. When Windows hasbeen installed then install all the device drivers (including the SATA driver),then shut down and boot up and got into the BIOS and enable the SATA drive.http://www.fixya.com/support/r4335035-installing_windows_xp_sata_hard_drive

I have a Toshiba (MK4004GAH) 40 GB Hard Drive which was taken out from a Old Toshiba Laptop. I bought a 1.8" IDE casing with USB and connected to my new laptop....however, it fails to detect the HDD....

You have to make sure that you have connected the HDD in the right way. Please open it and ensure that you placed the disk rightly into the casing with each pin tapping the rightful hole, see the casing's small manual. Note also that the laptop has to detect the casing as well, so cross check the casing to ensure that its working.

I am trying to replace vista with xp on my toshiba a205 5800. i have bought the xp disk but when installation gets to the point of transferring files to the hd, it says that no hard drive is present. i...

The reason why Windows XP installation CD cannot detect the hard drive is because your Toshiba has a SATA hard drive and the Windows installation CD does not have the SATA driver on the CD.
If you do not have the SATA driver then you can get around this problem. Please click on this link and follow my instructions :-

Toshiba 500 GB External Hard drive cant be detected by windows xp

yes you could simply format the harddrive in Fat32 using your macos that would be the best solution but don`t forget to backup your data by copy pasting the files on your mac or something else and after that to move them on the external hdd again to be available on the windows machine

Laptop shows only 4gb ram & 300 gb hdd

This is the limitation of a 32 bit (x86) Operating System. A 32 bit OS can detect upto 3GB RAM only.

You may either try installing the x64 Bit of XP Operating System or Vista Service Pack 1 or 2 for 32 bit Vista Operation System to resolve the issue.

After installing the SP 1 or 2 of the Vista OS in the Computer, the OS will detect 4GB RAM.

Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hard drive detection

You should not need a driver for it. Assuming you are using XP or Vista, the disk should be supported directly by the OS.
Have a look at external HDD troubleshooting.

Acer Extensa supports two model of HDD installation 1) AHCI and 2) SATA.

Windows Vista get installs on both but for Windows XP you need to Enable SATA option.

Try it, and mail me update: [email protected]

How to detect two IDE drives with same brand

You need to set one of the drives to be 'master' and the other to be 'slave'.
This is done by positioning jumpers on the back of the harddrives.
Pretty sure that on the drives is explained somewhere how to position the jumper, for several options.

Good luck,
Please post some feedback.
