I have had the Kenwood VR-407 since 2001. I also have a Mitsubishi projection TV, attached to the receiver. When watching regular cable TV (u-verse), I can not get sound from the rear speakers. I am using video 1. If I have Listen Mode set to Pro-Logic , I get sound out of the Center Speaker and the 2 speakers in the TV only. If I have it set to Stereo, I get sound from both side, center and the 2 speakers in the TV, but no sound form the back speakers. I checked the TV and the audio is set to surround. When I play the DVD I get sound from all speakers.I'm sure I have a setting wrong but I'm not sure? Thanks Bob

Most TV stations you watch don't send a surround sound mix so you won't get anything in the back speakers. DVDs generally all have a surround mix which is why it sends to all speakers. What you are experiencing is normal, Bob.

How can i connect my kenwood vr-505 to my t.v only

I assume you mean you want TV-related sound to play through the Kenwood.

It's in the manual.

Register and download the manual for free at retrevo.com

I personally would recommend minimum TV involvement in sound and minimum receiver involvement in video, but that's just me.

You might want to ponder why you would need audio from a TV in the first place if it originates elsewhere like a Cable Box. The fewer hops and interconnects a given signal takes on the way from the source to your ears, the better (and cheaper, too, as optical or HDMI cable is expensive). You COULD skip the TV entirely. Many don't even HAVE audio (monitors, for example). The receiver only NEEDS a basic composite video output to the TV so you can use the TV for setup and control. You COULD run vanilla stereo audio to the TV from the Cable Box for watching Oprah.

I run all of my best DIGITAL audio directly from the sources to my VSX and the best DIGITAL video directly from the sources to the TV.

How do i hook up my tv sound to play through my stereo speakers

The following are the best I can do without specifics re: your TV and other TV-related equipment.

Since a TV without an antenna is rarely the source of any programming it is best to feed the receiver the best sound available from the device where it originates - cable / sat / DVD / BluRay / games. Your receiver probably has plenty of inputs to accomodate al of these. I also run the video directly to my TV, which has several video inputs, from each source because IT deserves the best unadulterated video.

If you have a cable box and want the best sound, get it directly and digitally from the cable box and run it to the receiver. Then leave the TV's speakers off for critical viewing with good sound.

Trying to get sound to come out of system when watching tv

Connect the audio from the source of the TV's sound to the receiver.

Cable/Sat/Games will yield the BEST sound if the receiver gets it directly and digitally.

I have a new Samsung 47 in LCD and Kenwood DVD purchased in 2005. I am trying to hook both up to get surround sound from my Kenwood VR-606. My signal is coming from a HD cable box. I'm using HDMI from the...

Without additional equipment it can't be done. As i see your VR-606 pure analog device, and you trying to somehow use 5.1 sound from HD STB that is on HDMI put on RCA connectors of your VR-606. It is impossible without converter from HDMI to Analog audio or something likethis, best way to buy new receiver with HDMI input and TV neither Receiver with HDMI out oportunity. Then you will have your home cinema. In your current setup probably you can play only with stereo from your stb.

Cannot get the receiver to connect to a newer

It would be the rare TV that originated anything approaching the sound quality of any other audio source in your home or could process digital multichannel audio anywhere near as well as the Kenwood. What model TV did you say this was? Its internal audio controls could also be part of the problem.

TV-related audio is best derived from as close to its source as possible. Your cable, satellite DVD, BD all have superior digital multichannel audio outputs. Why would you want to filter them through the TV first?

Those sources may also have HDMI which would be great for the TV; they also have standard RCA stereo outputs, each of which could be suitable to run to the TV's RCA inputs if you only want to watch news or weather with lo-fi sound.

Bottom line recommendation: BEST video to the TV; best audio to the Kenwood.

How to connect my kenwood vr-606 digital audio to my tv... i tried to connect digital audio cable from my tv digital audio output to kenwood vr-606 receiver digital audio in and it's not working.. what did...

Your TV is NOT an audio source by itself. It's job is to make pretty visual stimulus for your eyes, not your ears. Everything IT hears comes from somewhere else like a DVD, BluRay, Cable Box, right?

Get the absolute best TV-related audio directly from the digital audio outputs of each source you're watching, not the TV.

Reear speakers not putting out sound

If the TV sound source is through stereo RCA cables you'll only get rear sound if you choose one of the DSP modes. A digital source might work as expected, IF you have things correctly set up for multi-channel.

Kenwood vr-405 receiver

I have the 405 as well. My TV has an optical out and I run that straight to the 405 optical input. I set the input selector to DVD/CD (not DVD)and presto! TV audio out my speakers. It all comes down to the audio connections on your TV.

Kenwood VR-405

more info would be nice. If you're using optical, make sure its securely in both the tv and your vr-405 receiver. I have owned the vr-405 since 2000 and i just purchased a sony 32xbr6. HDMI into the TV, optical out to the receiver, it sounds amazing!
