Sound travels through different kinds of matter. Sound travels through gases,
liquids and solids. 1. Hold a plastic bag of water against one of your ears. Cover
your other ear with your hand. Have someone hold a ticking
clock against the bag of water. Listen.
2. Keep the clock in the same place. Remove the bag of water. Listen.
3. Place a block of wood between your ear and the clock. Listen.
Do you hear the clock best through the air, the water or the wood?

B. 1. Place the clock 20 cm away from your ear and listen to the ticking.
2. Have your partner hold the clock at the 20-cm mark on the meter
stick. Place your ear at the end of the meter stick and listen.
3. Have your partner hold a metal rod to your ear and place the clock
against the rod 20 cm away from your ear. Listen. Does sound move
differently through some solids than it does through others?

C. 1. Take the plastic cups (telephone) and hold your cup to your ear
while your friend talks slowly and clearly into the other cup. Keep
the string tight. How does it work? What is vibrating? How do the
vibrations of your friend's voice reach your ear?
2. Can a third person talk and listen if another cup with a string is
attached? Take the separate cup with the string and attach it to
the first line. Keep all strings tight while one friend talks into
one cup and the other two friends listen. Can you hear the message
of the third party? How many lines could you attach? Does each
addition weaken the vibrations?

What is the difference in the optical and digital zoom?

Hi,

Find the difference below

Digital Zoom

1. Digital zoom is a part of digital cameras, and camcorders, which helps to crop the entire image, and then digitally enlarge the size of the viewfinder of the portion that is needed to zoom in on
2. Digital zoom crops the image down to a centred area with the same ratio as the original, and also interpolating the result back up to the pixel dimensions of the original. this method involves cropping, hence the resolution and quality is reduced
3. Digital zoom, crops a portion of the image and then enlarges it back to size. And due to this, image quality is reduced in comparison with the original one.
4. Using the digital zoom allows the user to get closer to the subject when the photographer wants to be discreet about taking pictures, like taking a picture of a person in a graduation ceremony.

Optical Zoom

1. While taking a picture using a Camera to want to get a close shot of the subject without moving physically closer, photographers use the optical zoom.
2. The optical zoom ratio of a digital camera measures how much the lens can actually zoom in to make subjects appear closer. Optical zoom, enlarges a picture while keeping the resolution and sharpness of the picture high.

3. There is no relation between optical zoom and the resolution of the photo, as optical zoom only enlarges the whole image or the subject to a certain range. So image quality only depends upon the mega pixel (MP) of the camera

4. Optical zoom is very useful, while taking a picture of a landscape, or to get a closer view of a subject, without reducing the quality of the entire image, like taking a picture of a Rainbow in the sky.

Ron

Problems with macro close ups

First make sure the lens is clean. Now set the dial to P mode. Hold down the flower button for a few seconds and the camera will go into "super macro" mode - keep watching the screen or the viewfinder until this happens. You might also feel the zoom resetting itself. You can now go right up to the subject, literally almost touching it - be careful not to damage the lens by hitting the subject! I think in normal macro mode 4" is too close.

Why did my picture become big so I can not see the sideline information

Press the RATIO button repeatedly to select the desired picture format. You can also adjust Aspect Ratio in the OPTION menu.
  1. Set By Program. Selects the proper picture proportion to match the source’s image. (4:3 → 4:3, 16:9 → 16:9)
  2. 4:3. Choose 4:3 when you want to view a picture with an original 4:3 aspect ratio, with gray bars appearing at both the left and right sides.
  3. 16:9. Choose 16:9 when you want to adjust the picture horizontally, in a linear proportion to fill the entire screen.
  4. Horizon. Choose Horizon when you want to adjust the picture in a non-linear proportion, that is, more enlarged at both sides, to create a panorama view.
  5. Zoom 1. Choose Zoom 1 when you want to view the picture without any alteration. However, the top and bottom portions of the picture will be cropped.
  6. Zoom 2. Choose Zoom 2 when you want the picture to be altered, both horizontally extended and vertically cropped. The picture taking a halfway trade off between alteration and screen coverage.
  7. Cinema Zoom. Choose Cinema Zoom when you want to enlarge the picture in correct proportion. Note: When enlarging or reducing the picture, the image may become distorted. You can adjust the enlarge proportion of Cinema Zoom using D / E button. The adjustment range is 1~16.

The picture does not fit the screen. The top and bottom of the picture go beyond the screen

you may need to adjust the aspect ratio of the picture, there is typically an "aspect" button on the remote that will adjust the picture from widescreen, super widescreen 16:9 ratio and sometimes you can zoom in. try that

Canon Powershot S2 IS Super Macro mode

Make sure your camera isn't zoomed in (full telephoto) The camera can't handle both full zoom AND super macro. Don't forget super macro goes from Zero to 20cm from the lens. Zoom completely out and you should be able to see something within that range. The biggest complaint I've heard about the S2 IS is if you take closeups of bugs the chances of the bug crawling onto your lens is pretty good.:-) Be very carefull of blocking light with the lens at extreme closeup too. Although the flash squelches well to allow for closeups it can leave a nasty shadow. If you're really serious about macro you'll find a ring flash would come in handy. BMW

Super Zoom

In addition to the optical zoom, this camera is equipped with a super zoom and digital zoom for taking telephoto and wide-angle shots. The super zoom and digital zoom cannot be used at the same time. Super zoom is used to extend the optical zoom up to 14× magnification. However, the resolution is automatically fixed at 1600 ×1200. Digital Zoom is used to extend the maximum optical zoom to approximately 40x. However, pictures taken with the digital zoom may appear grainy. Camera shake is likely to occur at these higher magnifications, please see “camera shake” question for further details on this.
