Prerequisites There is no PS2 memory card slot in the PS3 so will need a Memory Card Adaptor. Sony made an official adapter but there are also a number of cheaper alternatives. Buy one online:

Steps
  1. Plug your PS2 memory card into the adaptor
  2. Plug the adaptor into a free USB port on your PS3
  3. Go to the "Game" menu in the XMB and choose "Memory Card Utility (PS/PS2)"
  4. If the adaptor is working you should see an item called "Memory Card (PS2)". Below the title should be the size of the card and how much is in use-in my case "1334 KB / 7998 KB"
  5. Press the controller's Triange button to get the Memory Card options. Select "Copy"
  6. Select "Yes" to confirm the copy from memory card to the hard drive
  7. Enter a name for the new Internal Memory Card that will be created on the hard drive, or leave the default name. I named mine "Original PS2 saves". Select "OK"
  8. The data will be copied. If the amount of saved data is too large, the system will automatically create multiple internal memory cards
  9. You may be informed that the new internal card has been assigned to a "slot". These slots are an emulation of the physical memory card slots in the PS2, so similarly you may only have two internal/virtual cards "plugged in" (assigned) at a time. The internal memory card must be assigned to slot 1 or 2 to be available when you run PS2 games
  10. The new internal memory card should now be showing in the XMB, under Game > Memory Card Utility
  11. Selecting the card will allow you to browse the game saves that were copied across!

Can not create internal memory card, whenever I try I returned back to the screen that says name a internal memory card.

http://ps3explained.com/intermediate/internal-memory-cards/
Create an Internal Memory Card on the PLAYSTATION 3 system HDD as follows:

1. Navigate to [Memory Card Utility (PS/PS2)] under [Game] on the XMB.
2. Press “X” to bring up the “New Internal Memory Card” option.
3. Tell the PLAYSTATION 3 which format you want it to create. PS2 or PS1.
4. Highlight “OK” and press “X” to finish creating the memory card.

Note that you can make new saves on this card while playing PS2 or PS1 games on the PS3, but it does not allow you to transfer saves from a physical memory card to the PS3's HDD. You need the memory card adapter to do that.

I cant save sim city 2000 on my ps3

Make room free on your ps3's harddisk, this is where al data on your ps3 is stored.
Some games install alot game data, resulting in a harddisk thats is full.
Remove game data from games that you're not planning to play any more soon.

Can i format an old playstation 2 memory card

I think you have to manually delete everything off of the memory card, There isn't a format option on a PS2. I havent got my adapter for my PS3 yet to see if I can format the memory card on the PS3.

My ps2 memory card gets freezes when it is about to go to a save, it doesnt show the picture of the game and my memory card is full so l cant save any game. Please help me

Try clearing any unnecessary space on your memory card. Or you can buy another memory card and transfer your old saved files into your new one.

Ps2 memory card on ps3

Hi,
possibly a different format.
the newer system, does,nt recognise the format ( Language ) of the older system
unfortunately, the two consoles are not fully backwards compatable. there are a small amount of games that will run, but not all. check Sony backwards compatability Lists.

How to transfer ps3 saved game to ps2 memory card ?

I'm fairly positive it wont work that way because the ps2 cannot reconize a ps3 game the same way the xbox wont recognize an xbox360 game.

PS2 to PS3 memory card

There is a memory card adapter that you need to purchase (around $15 retail) that will plug into one of the ps3 usb ports and allow you to copy all your ps2 and ps1 memory cards onto your ps3. From that point you just use them as normal with your games.
