ICD-B500 Recorder I have an ICD-B500 Recorder and am trying to upload files to my hard drive. The computer is not recognizing the device. The salesperson told me I could use the cord from my older recorder and that does not attach to the USB port. Is that the problem. If it is, will an adapter fix it?

An adapter will not fix the problem. The files cannot be transferred to a computer using a USB port. The files must be transferred analog using the recorder's headphone cord. The files are then recorded to the computer from the Sony recorder using a program such as Windows Recorder. The ICD-B500 has many great features but archiving to a computer is not one of them.

On the internet, navigate to THIS PAGE, then select your operating system, where it says, "Select an operating system to see files:" in the center of the lower portion of the page (list of compatible systems shown below also), by selecting from the pull-down menu; then click on the appropriate link in the 'Download' column on the far right; then click the 'Download Now' icon with the earth and a green arrow pointing down on the far right, saving it to your desktop (or any location you prefer). Once the file downloads, double-click on the executable file you just downloaded, and follow the instructions. Sony ICD-B500 recorder keeps flashing HOLD.

Look on the case. You'll see a button that slides. It takes it off of HOLD. HOLD mode is good to protect the recordings while the unit gets put in a pocket or purse.

Transfer digital recording to computer to make CD

As there is no USB port on this IC Recorder, you can connect the Headphone OUT of the IC Recorder to the LINE IN of the Computer. Then, use any Sound Recorder Software to capture the files. You can also use the Sound Recorder Software preinstalled in the Computer. After transferring the recordings to the Computer, you can use any CD Burning Software to burn the files to a CD.

Sony ICD-UX70/UX80 digital recorder...memory full problem

If you press and hold down the "menu" button scroll down to the FORMAT selection and press enter. This will reformat the device.
I had the same problem - I think it arose after disconnecting the IC Recorder when it became unresponsive with the computer.
Make sure you transfer all your files first to a computer or back up source.
