Hi Martha,

If you need to unlock/reset bios password, here's what to do:

Unplug the pc and remove the cover. Look at the manboard (the big circuit board inside). look for a round silver button cell battery, about 1.5 centimeters wide. Remove the battery from it's socket and leave it out for 1 hour. Then put the battery back in the same way it came out. Plug in the pc and turn the power on. The bios is now cleared, and you can update it if you like. If this is not what you wanted, or you need more help, reply to me and I can help more.

Hope this helps!

Regards,

Joe

Hi! I have a Dell Optiplex 755 and need to upgrade the current BIOS of A11 to A17. I run the file and it prompts to a password which is unusual for BIOS upgrade. I checked the BIOS setup and it prompts...

the optiplex 775 comes in three models...standard tower, mini tower and mirco tower.

the user manual can be found here:

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/op755/en/index.htm

find the section in the manual that shows you the components on the motherboard. (I browsed it quickly and found one diagram on page 95) Look for the "password reset jumper". this will reset the BIOS password if any has been entered.

if you cannot find the password reset jumper, the other option is to carefully remove the coin cell battery for about 10 seconds or more while your PC is turned off and unpluged. In doing this you will have to re-enter your bios and reset your time and date information so it is a last resort option.

For save old bios and install new bios Dell OptiPlex gx620 (from version A05 to A011)

If you are looking to update your BIOS then you can obtain the latest version from Dell. There should also be a step by step guide on how to correctly perform the upgrade. However, unless there is a real need to upgrade your BIOS then you should not have to do this. I have worked on and custom built several PC's and have never had to update the BIOS.

Generally an indication that the Hard Drive isn't detected
Things to check, go to BIOS F2, reset defaults and reboot, see if the HDD is seen. If it is, the battery on the motherboard is likely dead and needs replacement (Watch battery at Walmart, 3 dollars)
If the HDD doesn't detect after resetting the BIOS, then most likely a Hard Drive failure
