Will play cd video, but will not play dvds - LG RH177 DVD Recorder/HDD Recorder

find it hard to believe that this device will burn dvd's as it will only burn cd's you require a dvd writing device to burn and read dvd's data or video with 3rd party software such as nero or nti

just install cyberlink power dvd then it will stgart playing all kind of video cds and dvds from dvd rom

Windows XP doesn't support burning DVDs, only CDs. You need to install an application that will burn DVDs. There are several;

Hello there:
you might need to check to see the format of the dvd that you are trying to play ie dvdr vice dvd some devices will not play them if the format of the cd is wrong

it might be sevral reasons:
1. Check if region code is the same for movies you playing and DVD player
2. If you using video CDs or copyed DVDs, player might be preventing to playback those kind of discs, due to copyright laws or due to different speed settings for DVD player and discks you using (for intsrance you player can playback DVD/CD+R, and you using DVD/CD-R, or mximum allowed playback speed is 16 you using disk recorded at 24, but this is in case you using burned/copied CD/DVDs)
3. Check it lens is durty. For that use CD/DVD lens cleaning disk
($6 in Walmart, if you are in US)
4. Check if movies you are have the same coloring system, i.e NTSC for US
5. Check CD/DVD for scratches, some DVD players can not playback scratched disks

This was probably caused by an update,just reinstall your DVD encoder/decoder software.

Basic Information:

i) try to choose  right burner for eg: Nero CD/DVD Burner

ii) try to choose the right format,

     for eg: MP3/MP4/ Audio Songs will come under Audio format
               in such case select "Audio CD/DVD format" in Nero CD/DVD Burner


     for eg: .DAT/MPEG/MP4/Video will come under Video format

                in such case select "Video CD/DVD format" in Nero CD/DVD Burner


     for eg: "DATA CD format" is only storing some data on CD/DVD iresspective whether it is                            Videofile or Audio file, 

                these "DATA CD formated" CD/DVD when played in DVD Player will play only Audio files 
                but no Video Files 

   
   

possibly check the setup of the player. some dvd's will not work in most players. check the manual. if under warranty take back to store. or better yet buy another one like it and take the one that is bad back to the store with the new receipt.

This unit has a problem when playing dual-layer discs of some kinds - read the warnings on the Magnavox website - playing the wrong kind of disc will cause an error that will require svc/repalcement to fix

your dvd has a calibration problem... some dvds can be recalibrated... but you have to take it to an tech service to do that for you... otherwise dvds are really cheap things today.
